The fiscal cliff

I must say watching this unfold from Canada, i am getting parts and pecices (when ever the news wants to talk about it). It is intersting to read the comments you have on whats going on :)

So has anyone looked up the pork that was added to the fiscal cliff bill ?

Here some.
$430 million to Hollywood to keep making movies
$480 million in aid for rum production
$40 million for race track owners
$59 million in tax credits for algae growers
And asparagus producers got an extension of their market loss assistance payment

But hey it's only about a billion dollars. Of your money.
Sickening isn't it.

Found this interesting: When a Republican president is in office and the debt ceiling needs to be raised, we're either told it's unpatriotic to question the POTUS or nothing at all because no one's talking about it. When a Democratic president is in office and the debt ceiling needs to be raised, they're called evil, tax-and-spend socialists who are trying to bankrupt the country.

What did Obama say about raising the debt ceiling before he was president ?

“Mr. President, I rise today to talk about America’s debt problem. The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. government can’t pay its own bills.”

Here, Obama is sounding a bit Tea Partyish.

“It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our government’s reckless fiscal policies. Over the past five years, our federal debt has increased by $3.5 trillion to $8.6 trillion. That is ‘‘trillion’’ with a ‘‘T.’’ That is money that we have borrowed from the Social Security trust fund, borrowed from China and Japan, borrowed from American taxpayers.”

And then he voted against raising the debt ceiling. Sounds like a flip flop to me.

In a speech in 2008 Obama call President Bush unpatriotic for raising the debt ceiling. Hmmmm
