I totally get it! Variety is the spice of life.

I brought in a couple of different lines into mine this season and its brought me a few headaches in the lacing department.

So I'm going for tidy lacing and also size... I have had a few roosters that are getting rather on the large side when grown.... seems to be a thing when producing birds for show that "bigger is better", in my book if its meant to be a certain small banty size, thats the way it should stay. Also a lot I have seen are rather squirrel tailed ... dont like that either.
Yes, I too, have noticed that many shows don't seem to care about the size anymore. Which I frankly find insane and stupid. It's a core concept for the breed... Ugh.
By 'squirrel tailed' so you mean that some of the tail feathers are curved? I am seeing that too, and especially in roosters with poor lacing. I saw that in some of my cockerels last year. Definitely not keepers. I'm hoping that the exchange of gypsy for lesser lacing ends up working out... The eggs I'm hatching now are a mix of progeny from both the rooster I have currently, and the one I just gave away. I'm hoping that one of those will be a better cockerel than either of the two from last year. The mother hen is decent, but her lacing could be better, too. The eggs I'm hatching are all hers. Ugh! I can't wait to see how they turn out! Ughh! Chicken breeding! XD 😹
