The frizzle gene - how does it work?

i have 6 babies from a frizzled cochin roo and a white crested black polish and only got 1 frizzle.i was hoping for more.i love the frizzles.

Was the polish smooth? I would like to know if two smooth parents can have a frizzle. It seems possible, from what I remember of genetics, but some traits are very removed.

Never EVER breed 2 frizzles. You will end up with a brittle feathered, possibly half naked bird.

If you would like to breed more frizzles, always breed a frizzled to a smooth.


My bantam EE and my red frizzled cochin roo hatched 6 babies .....5 are frizzled and 1 is smooth. From what I understand the smooth one STILL carries the gene for frizzling even though he is a smooth feathered bird.
IF I bred the smooth feathered baby to another smoothered feathered bird, it is possible that some of their offspring would be frizzled.

However, I do wonder if I bred the smooth feathered baby by the frizzled rooster to another frizzled bird, since the smooth baby carries the gene would breeding it to another frizzle produce a frazzle? If you get new birds, how on earth do you know if they carry the gene??

Not even remotely thinking of breeding a frizzle to a frizzle. I want to know how I got this one. Genetically, I feel it is possible to get a frizzle from 2 smooth parents. If that gene is recessive, it seems like the answer is yes. That is what I am wondering. I believe, (though I may not be correct) that both the Serama's parents were smooth, so she is somewhat unexpected.
And yes, the smooth bird would still have recessive genes from the frizzle parent.

the best way to breed frizzles is to breed frizzle X smooth, even though you will get 50% smooth, you eliminate the possibility of frazzle (over curly feathers that are brittle and weak) frazzle birds are more suseptible to disease
frizzle Xfrizzle will give you some frizzle, some frazzle, and a few smooth
frazzle X smooth will give you 100% FRIZZLE.
