The Front Porch Swing

Nah do like me and just keep adding pens:lol:

Oh man, I wish!! That would be heavenly, lol

See that's what I keep doing too! Pretty soon we can put streets between the coops and call it chickentown.

So I just had a small hatch, accompanied by a small hatch last week, and a few other eggs hatched under a broody bantam cochin... well, I decided to to see if she would adopt a few of the chicks (hers just hatched yesterday) and ended up putting them all under her, lol... she now has 13 chicks under her and she took them all!! (granted she looks a little confused when they were all running around eating by her, there were 5 that hatched under her) Good thing she is a poofy little girl, there are 2 of the older ones that are right up next to her chest, but she took them all, hehe, golly I love good broodies!!

If I had the money and the time I really would have a chickentown. I am always falling in love with a new type of chicken all the time. Chickens are like shoes... you really can't have too many. Except for with me I am so picky on shoes I really don't have too many. Chickens on the other hand.......

. Is it bad when you would rather have a new chicken than something you actually need? Does there come a time when you "need" a new chicken? hmmm... just thinking...

Ok, so I still have a terrible looking front porch but, my back porch is getting a landscaping makeover. I started 2 weekends ago planting little flower beds on the corners of the house and porch- even a corner with a citronella plant.

Cleaned up the barn and brooders this weekend- everyone got new bedding and seemed really happy. Candled eggs last night and got 2 of 3 Gold laced/Buff laced brahma eggs that are on day 14 and developing beautifully!!!

I was really expecting to use them as garden bombs to keep away the deer and rodents-- now my brahma chicks from CRfarms will have little playmates and I can finally start fulfilling my swaps for the large brahmas. Now if only my little bantys will start laying. They have been nesting for a few weeks but, no egg yet.

I have a coronation hen that is once again broody... This is getting ridiculous..... Gave her, my swedish flower hen, and chocolate broodies eggs to sit on and hopefully.... this will break their broodiness for the year. If it keeps up I am going to turn off the incubator and just start stuffing eggs under the mamas.

Wow! I didn't realize how long it has been since I've been on. I've been trying to find a full time job while working part time at my agency. I may also be moving (just a few miles away). So, there's that too. I hope everyone is well!!!

Morning....my head still hurts from yesterday. I think sinuses. so the "good" part is under debate. but ....Morning!!!!

(insert zombie moan here)

I am with you, its morning- I woke up and am alive and everyone in my family is in good condition so- that makes it good. This has been the worst year in TN for allergens. So we are starting the chicken tractor building back up- hopefully get more chickens out and about. Right now we have 8 3-4 level brooders in the breezeway of the barn holding everything from day old chicks to point of lay chickens. Trying to work on better ventilation for everyone stuck inside. We figure we can make several small A-frame tractors pretty easily and get a few trios out in the open. It's just hard to find the time to do all of this- with 4 kids and me and Steve both working our business full time (last week we worked several +12 hr days at the shop) it gets overwhelming sometimes.
