The Front Porch Swing

It's still so overcast that I haven't been able to see the mountains, so I can't tell if they got a layer of white frosting yet or not. I just dread fire season. The snow we woke up to yesterday morning was gone by yesterday afternoon. But it did provide some moisture to the ground. Since the ground isn't frozen, it seeped in slowly and deeply instead of running off.

Amberjem! Great to see you!

Yep fire season is coming here too.

Woke up this morning to almost 2 inches of new, heavy and wet snow! First measurable snowfall since November! We got some snow Christmas Eve but more a skiff than anything and it was gone quickly, and had a flurry or two in January. It's been in the 50s and 60s more often in February and March than I can ever remember, so this is very welcome! The mountains could see 8-10 inches so that eases my mind as far as how dry it was up there.

Is this a bad time to tell you it's 75-80F and my peach and nectarine are blooming?

But, if it makes you feel any better, my allergies have gone NUTS since the first warm day. My nose is like a leaky faucet and I'm sneezing my head off.

Blooie, fingers crossed you got some snow in the mountains. We didn't get any this year. Enough rain to fill the lake and we will have water, but the "ship water down south" thing worries me when we are in a drought too! And with no snow, the rivers need that water. And yah, not looking forward to fire season. Pretty worried about that this year.

Anyways, moving on to a happier subject. Saturday I went to the local farm stores poultry swap. I just went as something to do with my son, I swear! But, we saw an adorable female runner duck! She's almost a year old, just like the ancona ducks we have! We ended up with 2 of the three ducks we got being drakes. Got rid of one, so now we have 1 duck and 1 drake. The drake is starting to try to chase us. He doesn't know what to do if he gets close, but the other drake we had attacked my son, so this drake is going friday. After I got the new duck, I asked a friend if the wanted the drake. He has not been being nice to the new duck, so he's been fenced off by himself. He can see the ducks, but can't attack the new girl. Anyways, sorry for my long winded story, we named the new duck Jamima puddle duck.

Incase you can't tell, my son is a little excited. He can walk right up to her, pick her up and put her on his lap! He loves her! My husband will be coming home today at some point, so he will have a surprise! Haha. Jamima didn't eat any duck feed yesterday. She was foraging in the yard and we gave her some meal worms. Hoping she will be better today and eat some. She finally started to get more comfortable walking around the yard in the evening, so that's a good sign. Ana, the other duck, is starting to kind of warm up to her a bit, but she is very close with Elsa, the drake, so it's a slow process. I feel bad splitting them up, but I don't want another drake attacking my son and we don't have a big yard and ducks are so much mellower then drakes! I think the two ducks, in the end, will be a much better fit.

My husband has had horrible allergies this year. He never had any problems before this year. Yuck.

Alice, it's hard to tell which is happier, the duck or your son! Cute picture! I'm with you - I won't keep a roo that goes after anything. Around here they get their first "attack", then it's freezer camp. No second chances. I know lots of people have trained the aggression out of the roos, but I just won't have a critter I can't trust completely around my grandkids. Even if they never actually got hurt, the last thing I want is for them to be afraid to go out to the coop, run or yard because of a chicken.

Alice, my cheeks hurt from looking at those 2 pics.  You made my day!

So glad they made you smile

. My son is pretty adorable, if I do say so myself. New duck is pretty cute too

@Blooie couldn't agree more! I'm not going to have my son getting attacked when he goes out or even scared to go play in his own yard. Plus, I have a daycare and we go out a lot. The ducks are in the side yard when we go out, but still, I'm not goig to risk a kid managing to get the fence open and having a duck scare them.

Been pretty busy here, DH and I have been doing a little kitchen upgrade.
Before

We stripped the lathe and plaster all the way down to seeing the daylight through the cracks in the outer wall. They had blown in insulation before siding the house with vinyl, but over half of this area didn't get insulated. No wonder the kitchen was so cold.

Where we are today

Sink is installed but the water is not hooked up yet and the electric is not connected to the main panel.

After a couple of days working together -
Titled WELL, IT DON'T FIT THERE, GUESS I NEED TO HIDE THE BODY SOMEWHERE ELSE.
