The Front Porch Swing

I've got to share this then! They're both sitting on eggs

(didn't like my picture taking much..) We should have babies by the end of the month or so.

We raised two of our grandkids. Little Diane was a "delicate" eater, even at 6. She still is. And grandson Jamie was a hearty but sensible eater - at 11. But by the time he was in high school and on the track team, wrestling, and playing football, he was an eating machine. I used to tease him that he would pull up in front of the house, come in, change into his eating clothes, open his gullet and tilt the refrigerator!

Aww! I just love their caruncles and their hissing! I think several of the babies I have will be chocolate colored like their papa but one of thems looks completely white like the Indie. Hopefully it will get her pretty blue eyes.
I'm just beginning to be eaten out of house n home. My kids were never big eaters but their high school friends sure are. LOL
My brothers are but they are both health conscious and work out judiciously, so they aren't eating massive amount of food. Nathan is a foodie and enjoys almost anything. I rue the day he brings a pack of football players home and asks me to make them a snack. I need to have a seven course meal ready in the freezer for that day! O_O

My eldest brother would come home every once in a while in his mid 20s... Those were the days my mom would cook giant casseroles

I swear he didn't eat the rest of the time or something. Ofcourse he brought home his laundry too. He was a stick.. a tall, tall stick. I remember his lunch at work, as a teen, he worked at the grocery store, stocking shelves. His lunch was half a loaf of bread, a half gallon of milk and a pack of lunch meat.

The expectant father.

I have no idea where this kid puts it all! As a big girl, I'm honestly confused. At least Mom has had the good sense to make sure these kids eat breakfast and lunch at school so they aren't ravenous when they get home. We wouldn't be able to afford them if they actually are their fill at home alone. What a lovely drake! Clyde, my chocolate drake before I rehomed him, was an eager father. He would sit outside Indie's nest and stand watch so the dogs wouldn't get close. My older dog enjoyed messing with the ducks by going to their nests and removing eggs, lining them up in a trail to the back door. I was absolutely horrified. Clyde was always hissing after that and would attack and scratch her when she got close. Sandy was very lucky she didn't lose an eye.

Ooh, I had a question. I have a Little Giant Incubator (manual) and have managed to hatch out several very healthy Muscovy ducklings (supposedly difficult to do). I've heard that geese are very similar, genetically, to muscovies soooo...

Does anyone have experience hatching goose eggs in the Little Giant still-air incubators?

I just got contacted by the seller of the Lavender Sebastopol eggs and purchased them. I'm incubating chinese/African goose eggs now (it seems to be going well) but I don't want to risk trying to incubate these eggs myself only to end up losing $50 by not hatching any of them. Mom squealed when I confirmed the purchase, so I want at least one to hatch successfully.

Hey folks, touching base. I didn't realize I hadn't checked in since I got back from the 3 week surgery and rehab on my knee replacement. I'm doing very well and following orders. So I'm ahead of the game. I'm able to go outside and feed and water, make fermented feed and gather eggs. As long as I take my phone I'm great. Both PT and OT come as well as the home health nurse.

I bought a Hover Bata 1588 with air and turner. Now I can incubate my White Plymouth Rocks I've been babying all year.

I look around and see so many things that need attention to that I'm gonna be busy quite a while. SIL took care of feeding and I had to discontinue the fermented feed. They are a little bedraggled but will perk right back up. I started feeding it back yesterday.

Yay, good for you! I was cooped up and kept away from my chickens recently. Nope, nope, nope, I didn't like it at all. I'm glad you are able to get back out there and do what you want.

Ooh, I've heard good things about the Hover Bator! Are the White Plymouth rocks new to your flock (forgive me, I am so behind, I don't know whether I'm coming or going these days)?

I need to invest in a new incubator but I'm kinda used to mine. They have the digital ones now for the same price as the manual versions were when I originally bought it (the Little Giant) but I'd have to hatch a whole bunch of eggs to justify the purchase and I kinda sold all but one of my roosters...and and he's just a little frizzle!

I bet your birds will appreciate the FF once they get back on it! I'm too lazy to keep up with mine. Sometimes, I just fill the feed buckets with their mix/water and just leave it outside for a couple days. It ferments and it's ready to eat. That being said, I always forget to do it and the dogs enjoy figuring out how to get to it. They love the stuff, too!
