The Front Porch Swing

Parts of Ohio did. Not sure what part though. I was going to look since I have a friend in Columbus. My part of Texas got big storms.

I want to start painting my house today. I can't though. :/ I need to work and the house hasn't been properly prepped yet. I need to power wash and scrape. Do some repairs. Oh ya, I need the paint too! I'm hoping it will go on sale soon. I think I can get a good start on things on Easter weekend. :) Would anyone like to help me? I have a nice front porch. No swing, but I do have some chairs. :)
Yeah. The wind is picking up right now. It rained the whole day here.

Oh okay :/ Sure I can help! :)

Hi ChickenBoy....

Hello!

It's been a long day and long hard week. So glad it is Saturday tomorrow. Lots to do, but it still beats my paying job. :)
Off to bed.

Quote: Dont know why the call them Hinnies.... I do know that the Donkey mom gives the mule baby a different personality... More like a donkey... They are smaller than Mules in General but can pack as much weight and are just as steady in rough terrain. Genetically they are considered the same... A hybrid that cant reproduce (theoretically but there are some that have been known to be firtile) With all the hybrid vigor associated...

We're quite a bit lower at about 4,000 feet. One window is on the south, the new smaller one (19 x 24) is on the east. Currently the temporary roost runs north/south and is on the west side. The south is the only place we could put the nest boxes because of trees but they'll welcome all of that shade in summer. I'm still debating on putting the nest boxes with a slanting roof to prevent roosting, poop board above that, then the roosts

.

See, it's really tucked into trees....Hanson Cherries on the north side, Pear tree in front (that one isn't that close) Apricot trees to the south and a thick hedge of lilacs all the way behind it. This was taken Wednesday morning I think, but it shows the proximity to the trees. The most sensible gap for the external nest boxes is right there between the first Apricot and the back hedge of lilacs.

I think it is important to be able to reach straight down into nest boxes to gather the eggs. I'm not as nimble as I used to be. That squatting and reaching forward and straining to see through my glasses at weird angles thing really messes me up.

Well....looks like I'll be picking up a 3 yr old, intact male, GP tomorrow evening. I'm a little leery about it all....sounds like he hasn't been trained on anything at all. Not a good time for my back to be acting up, but I'm going to ask God to help me with this dog, since He's the one that led me to it in the first place. He sounds like he has just had owners that weren't too on the ball, if you know what I mean?

The guy said he thought this dog would attack Jake..... as if I would ever let that happen.

Don't folks know they have control over such things? Sounds like this dog just needs a leader.

Katy , the female GP, has had no training at 5 years old. I know it is going to take a lot of work, but she is sweet. Very stubborn though. They are smart and when the cows come and she has a job think that will help. She is bored. I know you can work with this boy. They are such great dogs. Guess we will be training dogs together.

Okay, so am I crazy? Wait....let me rephrase the question - is THIS crazy? There, that's better. If I've learned anything on the Porch it's not to leave myself wide open like that!

Anyway, we put the chickens out a few days ago. It's still cold out there and the thought of leaving my nice warm house to go out and do m' chores is a drag. BUT, I put on my coop shoes and go out and do it. And I find I'm enjoying taking care of the chickens so much more with them being outside. That strikes me as a little odd - seems it would be more pleasant to remain warm, clean up after them, feed and water them, and check on them frequently when they're in the nice warm house with me. That hasn't proven to be the case. I like going out and replenishing the feeder, refilling the water, opening the door and letting them out, and watching them as they come out to greet the day. Yes, I definitely have inside housework I could be doing. Yes, I'm cold. Until I get a better water system going I tend to slop the water on my pant leg on the way to the coop. But I'm enjoying this so much more than when they were in the brooder. Is that NORMAL????

External nest boxes won't need a slanted board over them to prevent roosting. DUH, DIANE! External was what we planned from the start. I don't even know why I said I hadn't decided yet. Well, guess it's because I'd just washed my fingers and couldn't do a thing with them.
