The Front Porch Swing

I think we have sacrificed everything for the benefit of ever increasing quarterly profits. Any amount of damage to anything is justified in pursuit of a good quarter. As long as average people are invested, they won't fight the damage. That leaves the most power/money hungry among us to do as they please. We've lost our collective conscience.

I just walked into my bedroom and caught a strong whiff of the FF in there and had to chuckle...not only am I keeping chicken feed in my bedroom, now I've got a broody nest in there too? Before you know it, Fat Cochin will be sleeping with me.

This is a very small bedroom, so it's funny how many things are going on in there. I'm also storing the chicken I canned this winter~ in my closet. Good thing I don't own much in this world or there would be no room for all this stuff in that tiny room.
lol Me tinks you have chicken fever!

I don't have much of a headboard and there would be no room there...he'd have to snuggle right in the bed with me. I think he would do it...he seems so very docile that I bet if I put him on that bed he'd just lay down and sleep. He was destined to be someone's house chicken, I just know it. I wouldn't put it past him to take a big interest in any chicks that are born and want to mother them.
cute, now THAT would be cute!

Looks that way, doesn't it? If you would see my room right now...there are little feathers everywhere..just blowing in the breeze generated when I walk through there. I'll tell this, those feathers are much more beautiful OFF the roosters than they ever were on them....that pen of roosters were a rough looking bunch.

I agree.

Bee, I just realized I'm dumb. I've always thought that I was fairly intelligent but today I was searching around for hoop houses and I came across one on Permies forum. It looked really good. Then I realized that it was yours. I was highly indignant that somebody had ripped off your picture, then I realized, Jules, that it was you. I forgot your name was different.

The permie forum....haven't been there in a long while. Those folks are really odd ducks...city folks very convinced they know everything there is to know about farming and they are doing it better. They spend loads and loads of money on very lush landscapes that yield a few baskets of food...but, by golly, they are doing it like a hippy should!

Even their animal paradigms are highly impractical, expensive and produce nothing...the guy who runs that forum was showing a vid on one of the BYC sister sites about a "natural" coop for chickens and it was a very small brush pile that someone had propped up a little on one side with bricks~had about 2 ft. in height and about 2x3 ft. of space in it, total. Mind you, not one bird was living in it but he was very excited about the possibilities of this coop.

Meanwhile, his own coop is this monstrosity of expensive construction that they've dragged up on some hay bales for the winter months so the poop falls through the floor...but the chickens have nowhere to be on the floor because it's all wire. And they spend more on feed than they are getting in eggs....producing nothing of real profit or value.

City folks....pish posh.

I thought it was just me. Wondered about that.

I found that site first months ago and it led me here, so I'm happy for them. I was interested in the hugelkultur beds and I have one half way done. More digging to do. No time soon.

Hey Bee I have a couple of questions....

First: I was talking to my mom about the use of Caster Oil as a topical remedy..... She asked if it caused Peoples bowels to loosen. I figured youd have to use alot topically to have that effect.... I remember dad used to talk about going to the drag races and because they used Caster Oil as a machine lubricant that even the fumes could cause your bowels to loosen.

Second: My legs swell to the point that I have to lay down for an hour or two every day to let them go down.... Caused by inactivity and sitting in a chair most of the day.... I have always had poor circulation even when I was thin they would swell. I also have pain in my knees all the time.... feels like someone is taking an icepick and trying to pry my knee caps off. Which keeps me from getting on my feet and doing a little walking. IF I could relieve the pain a little and mitigate the swelling a little with the use of Caster Oil I would love to give it a try.

The Pain can be managed by over the counter drugs like Aleve and Ibuprophin and tylenol. I had a doctor actuallly tell me to take three GRAMS of Ibupropin per day because my insurance wouldnt pay for celebrex. Yeh it worked but my gut fell like some one hit me with a hammer in it. So I dont take anything and deal with the pain.... I will load up if I need to do some work or afterwards when I have had to do something I hadnt planned on.

So I want to give Caster OIl a try to see if it helps if it is appropriate.
