Just a wild guess, but it may be possible that the move stressed them. It may or may not be an old wive's tale, but I've heard that Cayenne pepper will stimulate a reluctant hen to lay.

First~~The section that is on top when you are posting, where the emoticons, B, I, U , etc. is missing. Can anyone tell me how to get it back. It was on here when I first posted this evening, then the next time, it wasn't here. Also, when I quote someone, it comes up with all kinds of symbols imbeded in the message.
Second~~I put my French copper maran roo, 2 copper maran hens, and 1 cuckoo maran hen, in a pen by themselves so I could get baby marans. They have been in the pen, which is a hoop/coop-greenhouse, with a fenced in lot behind it, for almost 3 weeks. They have plenty of room, sunshine, fresh air, but they've only laid 3 eggs!! One was broken in the lot. I have a feeling this breeding project just ain't going to fly!!
Does anyone have an idea why they aren't laying? The cuckoo is about 1 year old, the other marans are 2-3 years old. Now I know that is kinda old, but I should be getting at least 1 egg a week from them. They were laying before we put them in the pen. Getting a little irritated!!
I've gone from 179 pounds to 163 since my last stenting (and now that I've told you that I'm afraid I'll have to shoot you!) and the doctor was very pleased about that. But I guess it is what it is. Ma passed away at 58 from her heart and vascular problems, so I've done better than she did - I'll be 64 this December.
Okay, stoopid chicken questions again. If so, could the two Red Sex Links with the perpetual blushing be getting close to laying? I don't mean tomorrow, but in a couple more weeks or so? (13 weeks old Monday) Is it getting close to time to uncover the nest boxes and toss a couple of fake eggs in there? (Kinda hate to do that, they look so cute in the basket on my counter!) Or should I wait until I see the first egg, then uncover and put in the eggs?![]()
I'm new to all this, you know. The lady at the grocery store doesn't blush when she's stocking eggs in the cooler there, and Ken crows all the time even though he's almost the same age as I am. So I have no point of reference.
Could have an egg eater... just thinking out loud.My emoticons are here. But my internet service is slow because my Son is doing a MEGA down load. We are talking its going to take at least four days to finish it.![]()

I am so relieved that you got your storm cellar done. As an added bonus, it'll make a fine place to store canned goods! Good on ya! And yep, if you even dug one little shovelful then you helped dig!It was a "once in a lifetime" storm as they called it. It was like a mile and a half wide, EF5 and went through THREE states200 folks killed.![]()
Most storms will never get that bad.
I think I would have liked your dad very much! Betcha if you stuttered he would have told you that what you had on your mind was important and if you'd write it, he'd read it. Sounds like that kinda dad!My dad used to take me dress shopping when I was a teen. I think because I was so self critical I couldn't stand it, and my mother was no good because she loved clothes and just didn't get me.
I remember having to buy a prom dress and my dad's advice was something to the effect of, if you say to yourself that's a pretty dress, well that's not the one. But if you say to yourself what a pretty GIRL, then that's the right one.
He's been gone ten years now but he is still with me in the dressing room when I'm trying things on! Last time I went clothes shopping I couldn't find anything nice at all and I complained to him "why can't I find anything nice?" And I could hear his voice clear as a bell "Because you're in a *********** thrift shop, stupid! Go to a proper ladies dress shop and spend a little bit of money on yourself for a change!"
A lady always has the option of mentioning her weight and age - a gentleman, however, never repeats that information!Great, first you tell us what you weigh then say you are going to have to shoot us because of that. THEN you tell us how old you are.
The two things one NEVER asks a woman and you gave both. So now I am SURE you are going to kill all of us; been nice knowing everyone!
I think "Blooied" is going to have a new meaning!![]()
You do seem to have WAY more than your fair share of "character building" events.![]()
I think I read that sex links tend to lay earlier than a lot of breeds but that is still 16 weeks so you probably have some time yet. But I agree with all the other replies so far. My first chicken laid an egg by the frost free water spigot, as Leslie suggested. Probably figured she just pooped. So leave the nest boxes closed for another couple of weeks and watch for the squat. If you haven't seen it it is funny. One of the Anconas sometimes comes around the corner not realizing I'm there then squats while stamping her feetMine also laid their first egg about 2 weeks after they started to squat and the reddening of the comb started earlier.![]()
Hmm, I thought Marans were pretty good layers - I have so much to learn yet it's scary!I thought of that, but I don't see any damp or wet spot. But I guess if they laid in the grass, I couldn't see it. I will try to keep an eye on them this weekend. They aren't great layers, but I thought at least I would get a few eggs to put in the bater. I'm going to go ahead and keep them in for the duration and see what happens. I restarted my computer and everything is back. WHAT a download!!!!
How do you know?
