The Front Porch Swing

That's crazy Deb! I like how you have a helicopter fly you to a hospital, aren't allowed to drive, so make your mom and grandma drive you then go get your horse and track down all the stuff she drug off with her. Lol. I wouldn't mess with you.

Actually I drove to my house. Mom drove the return trip to the city. Back then she was still doing good driving. That Helicopter ride cost me 10,000 dollars the insurance company only paid for 6 of it. If I knew then what i know now I could have refused the ride.

Amen! And boy Deb, you tell a good story - I can see the whole thing while I'm reading!

<<PLOP>> Whew! Could I trouble someone for a glass of something cold and sweet, and maybe a huge slice of banana bread slathered in real butter - not Oleo? Wait - make that moonshine and the most fattening bag of chips on the market.

Just got home about 10 minutes ago from Billings....planned on making a high speed run there, getting back here about 1:00, and calling Caroline (luvblues7) to meet up with them in Cody. For starters I left my cell phone at home. Really stoopid move considering that I've been waiting to hear from Jenny all day. Then Tam could not, and I mean could NOT, find a pair of shoes that didn't kill her feet. She has some serious foot issues so it's so hard to find shoes that work. We hit about every shoe store in Billings - and never did find something that she could wear comfortably on the cruise. Katie was hungry and getting owly, so we stopped about 3:00 to grab an early dinner.

While we were walking from the car to Penney's after dinner, the wheel fell off my walker. No warning, no wobbling - one minute it was rolling along and the next it was rolling away. So when the walker came to an abrupt halt, I stumbled, fell forward and clobbered my head on some parked car's bumper. Just great...Tam and I went in (sans walker) while Ken ran over to Lowe's and got some little doo-dad he needed to put the wheel back on. It's a sign......I ain't supposed to take that doggone wheeled contraption on this cruise.

I made two calls the second I walked in the door. I called Jenny first. News there is pretty doggone good. Kendra still has the same sized ventricles she had on her last MRI, and the amount of fluid in them hasn't changed. And the Chiari Malformation is also the same size and in the same position that it has been as well. So our Little Warrior doesn't need any surgery for either the malformation or shunts. Yayyyy!!!!

They think that what's happening is that her seizure activity has changed. Whether it's because her Onfi and Keppra levels are too low or it's the wrong combination of seizure meds is the question. We know from her EEGs that besides the obvious seizures we see she has many silent seizures that don't show up except on the EEG. Her neurologist thinks that the family history of migraine (Kenny, Jenny and me) and epilepsy (me, Jenny), and the uncontrolled electrical activity in addition to the fluid on her brain are causing these severe headaches. So tomorrow they begin the search for a better combination or different dosages of what she's currently on, plus the addition of some kind of pain medication for the headaches. They are bad - she presses her hands against her head so hard that her little fingertips turn white and she just cries and cries. It's heartbreaking. But now we know what we're up against and Kendra fights on.

The second call I made was to Caroline.....are you reading this, my dear? I left a message on your phone, but I figured by now you'd found something interesting to do or had checked into your hotel and are ready to call it a night. I am so sorry I missed you - I was looking forward to it all day long and planned to give you a call as soon as we got home from Billings. I just didn't expect to get home this cotton-picking late. I'll PM my number to you anyway. But if we can't seem to hook up, please drive safely heading for home, my friend.

Okay, caught up...I think. Deb, loved your story about your own personal "construction crew" and I'm loving looking at the porches. Um, does Deb's count as a porch? It's more like a spa!

Thanks for all the prayers and good wishes for Kendra. We accept them gratefully and humbly. I wish you all could hold her in your arms and look into those eyes - see one of her rare smiles - hear her giggle - and watch her as she learns to do things that most 10 month olds are doing already. She is a total inspiration, and I'm so proud to be her Gramma!
I am soo glad for the good news... WRT migranes have any of you investigated Botox for the control of migraines? I used to date a man who had Cluster Migraines... Oh the agony.... he would shut off the lights and draw the curtains and get in the hall and walk little teeny steps from one end to the other. I felt so badly that I could do NOTHING for him but let him manage them his own way.

Blooie if you want a spa the best place to go is the Jacumba Spa hotsprings and resort. http://jacumbaresort.com/ The water comes out of the ground at about 98 degrees. Completely mineral water no chemicals are used in it.

My place wouldnt have any water for dunking unless I set up some stock tanks. But my courtyard would be an excellent place for a barbeque party. there is an advantage to courtyards too ... they can be made snake proof.

Linda, that was terrible for them, I'm sure.....almost like being in quicksand. I hope they are both OK. They may not have been in their the whole time.....don't feel bad.
I wondered about that too....they probably weren't in there for the entire time. Besides, the one thing I've learned about these feathered pain-in-the-hiney critters is that if there's way to do something to make us feel guilty, they'll jump all over it, and we usually oblige!

I did the Botox injections for about 2 years after the surgery to fuse my neck was botched. But I've always had migraines - they just intensified after the fusion. I hated the Botox injections. I usually got between 10 and 12 of them, starting in the back of my head just above where it joins the neck and down my shoulders and mid-back. Every pressure point my neurologist marked got shot. Them suckers HURT! Once I was put on Relpax the severity and duration of the them improved significantly. I take it at the very first sign that one is coming on and it usually stops it dead in its tracks after about 20 minutes.

We have a place with natural hot springs here too, in Thermopolis, which is about an hour and half from here. But mineral water or no mineral water, your "plaza" looks so restful that it could well be a dry spa! LOL And as far as a dunking in a stock tank - we spent hours splashing in the stock tank at my gramma's place. Grampa would be sure it was full when we were coming. Ah, the memories - first time I ever got yelled at for peeing in the pool was in that old stock tank! That urge passed real quick!

Ahh! These hoses running people over, helicopter flights and botched surgery stories are freaking me out! Lol! When my son wouldn't come out after pushing for 8 hours and you could see his head for five hours I cried like crazy and bagged the dr to let me push longer. Surgery freaks me out. Then getting my c section all I could think about was not making it. Now we decided we will adopt and are starting that process. Can't deal with the possibility of another surgery! Here are you brave people just talking about it like it's nothing and just another thing to do. Now I'll have surgery nightmares!

Here is a picture of my poofed up broody Golden comet. She is sitting on 10 eggs!

Have you looked into essential oils or acupuncture? I've been doing some erase arch into essential oils for my daughters headaches and ADHD and my heartburn. Essential oils can't hurt! Try this website
myessentialoils.com and also doterra.com
It's really interesting stuff. My friend who is really into these oils told me that the oils you can get in the store are not pure oils...they still have additives. This doterra website has the pure oils. They are expensive, but last forever because they are so concentrated.

Blooie, Happy to hear that Kendra won't need surgery. Hope you can relax and enjoy your vacation.
Deb, what a beautiful porch. Considering how cold Wi. has been this last week, It would be nice to enjoy the Cali. heat and listen to your stories.
