The Front Porch Swing

Aww, thanks for the support you all! I hope to start classes maybe this fall, so I can get my CNA back and be ready to start the actual nursing program in the fall 2015. 2 years of that, and then if I go straight into the Masters program it is another 3+years..... so I'm looking at 6+years and I can be doing my dream! That really excites me!

Not much going on as far as the chickens go. I do have a squirrel or something getting into my feed. It has gotten into the scratch and the BOSS, as well as the crumbles. Besides wrecking the building and knocking stuff off the walls/shelves. This shows me that we REALLY need to do some major predator proofing before we move the chickens into that building... which I knew it needed alot. I set my live trap, baited with scratch and BOSS... maybe I can get it early in the morning, or tomorrow...

We had just been talking about that today!  :gig   My youngest son and I were going on about how I could advertise them for adoption as foster chicks from a group home with a $10 adoption fee, a story about their life in the orphanage, pictures of their hatching and siblings, pics of their deadbeat dad and neglectful mom, and how much they really need a home.  Will include basic instructions on how to make FF with a little baggy of starter FF, a little baggy of shavings for bedding, instructions on chick care and a hatch certificate with their little claw prints in ink on the certificate.  Will include a feather from their mom as a security feather so the chick will feel less lonely and also recommend they buy at least two chicks so they can keep one another warm and for companionship.

Sound great but you need to kick them around or thump them on their little heads or something so you can tag on "rescue" babies! Then you could probably get $25! hahahahaha

Fry that sucker up and eat it so you'll get the benefit of that feed it stole from you. LOL

Lidnz, I think that is awesome! Had 3 of my 4 kids with a midwife, and tell everyone that it is the way to go!!

Michelle

P.S. Picking up my fuzzy butts tomorrow!!!!!

crap, I'm out numbered here. in fact i may be the only guy here. oh boy, not good. well lindz go for the nurse thing. the 2 type of people i have the most admiration for is teachers and nurses. when i was a youngster i taught welding to the men from Baltimore gas and electric co. my parents were teachers. well, my life took a turn..nurses saved my life more then once.. nurses do all the work and the over paid Dr's take the credit.the only thing is if you get me as a patient run the other way. i am a mean cranky patient.

WARNING TO ME . I AM GOING TO GET IN TROUBLE.

now let me say this about women. YOU DO NOT NEED a man. in fact if you need a man i will never chase ya. a partner is nice but need is a different story. i just turned 51 . i do not need a woman. i love women. i have been through enough of relationships . my picker is broken. if there is one thing that makes me turn around and gag. it is desperation. i have learned that a desperate woman can get mean and evil very quick. the expectations she puts on the man can not be met. the great illusion.

okay chicken suit. humm. i see what i can find and get someone to take a pic.

Me too!

But as one whose picker has been broken for a long, long time and maybe was never fully functioning, I knew exactly what he meant!

Egg count is up and I was pleased to see my favorite young WR pullet, Hope, was on the nest as well as the Little Red Hen, who is the energizer bunny of egg laying. She will be 7 yrs old in March. Love that little bird...she is the first on the back door step in the mornings to tell me that I'm late feeding. Just stands there and purrs, stares at me through the window and mentally implores me to feed..and feed NOW.

I hope you all are tucked in for this weather as best you can. This is the kind of weather when you find out how to depend on God more, learn to be still, and learn just how many things you can do without if you need to. It's a testing time. Winter is always a testing time here in the mountains...it tests your livestock housing and methods, the strength of your flocks, the wisdom of your choices about emergency preparation and tells you where you are lacking. There is a season for everything and this is a learning season for us. It's not always welcome but it makes us stronger and more self sustainable~as much as humans can be~ for the next time.
