The Front Porch Swing

Me too! I love the speckled ones! I chose all that I could of the speckled ones for my broody hatch in hopes to breed more chickens that will lay speckled eggs.

Not that I'll be keeping many of these chicks, as I hope to sell most of them as straight run mixed breeds as soon as possible. I've never sold chicks before but these are such an interesting mix and one that you don't see around here, so I think it will be easy to get rid of them.

Bee, you can mail them to me the day they hatch! I'll even keep you posted with pictures!

If I knew the first thing about mailing chicks and had the materials, I'd do just that.

You'd want chicks from the can't forage, sissified, born to be mild, not cold hardy, slow to mature and grow, afraid of his shadow Fat Cochin?

Yep! I love my cochins, and they have figured out the foraging... they just do it closer to the coop!

How far from I-77 are you?

About 20 miles. Surely you wouldn't travel for mutts like these? I wouldn't let you...I'd figure out how to send them first.

LOL... My aunt lives in Ohio, and we usually go up there every summer.... I was just curious. Although, I guess I could make a spring break trip instead of a summer one!

I'm only 5 miles from I-77 just after it crosses into NC. But seriously, no I wouldn't travel for chickens, and I really don't need any chicks right now anyway. I want to hatch my own if I end up with any broodies this summer. I would be interested in visiting on my way to my aunts though!

I usually go up 77-64 towards Teays, and then up 35 into OH.

That would be fun! I could probably put up with them until spring/summer. They will be raised rough and wild, living on mostly foraged food and a little FF. They probably won't take to living in any kind of a run situation after that, so not sure what your setup is like but they'll likely try to spend the rest of their lives getting out of it if it's a confined setup.

I do have a run but it is open when I am home which is 99% of the time! We basically just put it up, so they would have a safe place to get away from the neighbor's dogs since they won't keep them home! Go ahead and sell them though, I am not sure when or even if we will be heading that way this year.

I haven't decided just what to do with them and I guess I shouldn't count chicks before they are hatched, so I'll have to adopt a wait and see attitude to the problem.
