The Front Porch Swing

Why not keep everything stationary and do something like this? You'd have two chicken doors (one on each side) and for one year you let them do their thang on one side, the next year you switch. In the middle, between the garden/run areas is a place for composting. This is exactly the idea that started me on this track .... But I have to have multiple pens. And then they blame everybody in the house for not putting things back where they got them... except of course, you know who. That's when I turn the box over and let everything gently slide out. Sometimes you have to shake them a little but they generally slide out fairly easily. You are exactly right. As a service tech I've had to unpack and install HUNDREDS of PCs Monitors and Printers. You can also look up alibris.com They have used books and many times, their prices are better than Amazon, sometimes not. It's worth looking for though.

Southern Exposure Seed Exchange has a great website - one of their listings is "What to Grow through Very Hot Summers" http://www.southernexposure.com/what-to-grow-through-very-hot-summers-ezp-154.html

Bookmarked this. Thanks.

I'd love to do something like this, but my coop is set up in the shadiest part of the property besides the actual woods. So the garden has to live somewhere else.

I have, however, figured out where in the chicken run to put a large supply of manure. I don't want to "take care of" worms or grubs, but a regularly-stocked manure pile would accomplish something similar.

There will be a roost on the outside in front of the nests. I may also put a small ladder up top the roost as well.

You'll want to be careful that your nest boxes are not on level with or higher than any of your roosts...or you will have nest sleepers pooping it all up in there.

Or you have to closet hem up at roost selection time ... and open them again after everyone has found a better spot to sleep.
