The Front Porch Swing

You are so right! I have moved so many times in my life..can't even begin to count those, changed jobs over 40 times...lost track after that, lost everything I had in common with anyone the older I got and now I can hear an echo when I speak. But it's more than that, really...my kids went all the way through school and never had a best friend. How does that even happen? I guess now it's how many "friends" one can have on FB and not so much about establishing one or two really good friends that you take with you down through the years.

Are your peers having families yet? Such was the case for me...I started my family early and not many of my friends did, then when mine were teenagers, they started having little ones. Totally out of sync and nothing left in common after that.
Most of the people I went to school with do have children, but I think I have the most of anyone I went to school with. I moved out of the town that I grew up in but only about 30 minutes away, and many others moved even farther than I did. Life is busy and it is hard to make time to go visiting. I keep up with many of them on FB, but as far as actual face to face conversations, they are very few and far between.

Gosh I forget which thread I post on ..... sorry Here is the original post:

Grandma is surprisingly Ok with it..... Lost my manuscript and my walker.....

Police filed a report took my statement and info took grandmas info.... Mom came to the restaurant and picked me up. then Went through the whole thing again with grandmas insurance company.... Tripple A.

deb "Good news Is I found a good deal on Batteries so will get a jumpstart tomorrow and take the truck in."

When I said I lost my manuscript I should have said lost the latest manuscript journal.... My journals are about 180 pages and I had it about a quarter full of handwritten content.

I parked the car in the handicapped spot at the Sushi restaurant... was in there for lunch when I came out it was gone. It was then I realized my keys were not fastened to my purse as usual.

Last of the paperwork was submitted today... but in San Diego the first place stolen cars go is across the border... Before they are reported or the information gets passed around to all the police agencies. From the parkinglot of the restaurant to the border crossing is approximately a 30 minute drive.... That time of day.

So.... Grandma is just happy it wasnt an accident.... Insurance may not cover as much as first thought so we may be buying another car soon as the dust settles.

Grandma CAN NOT get into my truck. and I just sold my PT Cruiser...

At least you still had insurance. I thought you said you sold it and cancelled the insurance. See the mistake now. Thank God.

It's just stuff. Your mind is still working and can replace the memories. It'll take time, but you've got time. Insurance won't replace the walker?
My Mama was big on jewelry. Bought me lots of good stuff. I had a break in in '87 and they stole $18,000 worth of jewelry. My insurance paid $100 replacement because I didn't have separate policies on it. I learned that it's only stuff. I never valued it like she did and I certainly didn't replace it. Never wear any now. It was a good learning experience. Life matters. Family matters. God matters. I don't care about anything else.

You have us. And we two live very similar lives...no friends left to speak of, just a few sons who are still speaking to me~sometimes, and my mother. Don't even have the job any longer. You are not alone in your alone-ness, Deb.

We'd like to thrash whoever took your things.....

Exactly Deb, my circumstances are the same. Just the family I live with. AND it's enough. You are loved, never doubt it. I don't.

Hi from Vermont! I'd love to pull up a seat on the porch if there's still room
frow.gif

I've got some hot cider with/without rum to warm us up with yet another "polar vortex" creeping in.
I am dreaming of warm sunny days......
I've been reading the posts, figured I'd jump ahead and ask to join and go back and read some more.
Hope to make some new friends and continue to learn from all of you.
Thanks
Yea Vermont!!!! Sit a spell..

I for one think you are one incredible lady and a sweetheart -not to mention sooo smart. Any place that would let you go is no doubt ran by fools.

I have a lot of friends. When it was my birthday last week I told my daughter that 5-6 friends on facebook said Happy Birthday. She said Well, that's nice. Then I told her I had over 20 tell me the same on Backyard Chickens. She was so shocked. She said "This is the best thing that's ever happened to you. You are so happy! " And I am. I count you ladies as my best friends.

That's really sweet Linda.

On facebook I have many people I don't even know wishing me happy birthday but facebook puts up some kind of announcement where everyone you're "friends" with is informed of your birthday. If someone on here says something about someone's birthday, that's when I learn about it. Is there some kind of reminder on here or is it up to us to peruse everyone's profile page to find out?

I spend entirely too much time on BYC but I guess its my link to those who are like-minded. Plus, if I stay away too long, this particular thread, along with the ff thread and the heritage large fowl all take off and leave me in the dust and it gets pretty hard to catch up.

I sold my PT Cruiser and cancelled its insurance that morning.... I was driving my 97 year old Grandmas car. She lost her licence last year.... So I do errands for her... She has insurance on that car.

No coverage on the contents. IF I had renters insurance it would have covered my personal stuff. Through my own insurance company. By the way because My house is uninsurable I kept Rental insurance to protect me when i had people come to work on the place and the contents. Very good idea its rather inexpensive.... Sigh I let it laps when my roommate moved out.

You are right I have moved past the lost of material items in this case.
