The Front Porch Swing

Thanks everyone!

Yeah, I have a fenced in section of the backyard all to myself for my gardening and my chickens. Turning it into an urban farm of sorts. It's been so fun! Just do my gardening, or even sitting out there and watching my girls wander and scratch at the weeds and gravel. I'd like to plant something in the gravel for them to eat though. Ideally a type of grass.

Not sure what can grow there aside from weeds though.

Either way, they love to wander in the yard and roll in the dirt. It's just adorable. Right now, I let them onto the front yard(also fenced in) to forage in the grass there.
You will have to build a cage around whate ever you plant to keep your girls from Munching on it till its mature enough to survive their nibbles. I hear kale is a pretty good plant for that one.

Hehehe. Yeah. What I have right now is growing in a raised bed. Fairly tall since it's where I plan to put root veggies. Hopefully that will discourage them from eating my plants.

I'm here from Albuquerque, New Mexico. I'm raising chickens for the first time. I have 5 beautiful girls. Copper and Penny are my Rhode Island Reds. Beetlejuice and Lydia are my Barred Plymouth Rocks. Spazzy is my little Welsummer. I've been so happy with my girls.

I'm happy to have found this community too. It's been wonderful. I thought the front porch might be a good way to become more active here.

Welcome to the forum and to the porch....pull up a chair and pour yourself a drink from the table over yonder. We have a great choice of tasty beverages and finger foods to be had if you can only imagine them.

Hello from Kentucky. It's awfully nice of you to invite all of us chicken keepers to your front porch for a relaxing time with conversation, coffee, tea, hot chocolate and sweet cakes. My state is famous for several things -horses, basketball (go big blue) ,bluegrass and bourbon. So, I'll be bring the Wild Turkey Bourbon to put a giggle in the day.;-)
