The Front Porch Swing

Those are my favorite! And I leave them right where they belong and don't remove them. And so does the commercial processors. I remember a couple of years ago when some lady kicked up a fuss because she found kidneys in her chicken from KFC and those kidneys have been in KFC since KFC was born...no changes. You'd have thought it was something new and poisonous!

We always call that "the good stuff" and fight over who gets it in my family...I always settle for the slim pickin's of meat found on the back, just to get the good stuff of the kidneys.

Doesn't that yellow oil coming out of the oil gland when you mash it real hard remind you of icing that they write on cakes with? Yuck! lol

'Popes nose' and wing tips - doesn't get any better than that.

I would gladly let you have that piece. lol Those things have just a little bit of a yuck factor to me. I don't know why, I guess it's just the thought of eating kidneys. But really what's the difference if I eat the heart, liver and gizzard...? lol

Hi, my name is -Lj and I'm a Custard-aholic. It's been two days since my last bite of custard.

I thought I had a can of pumpkin in my cupboard so have been planning a pumpkin custard. It's actually a can of butternut squash. Should I try it anyway?

I say go for it!!! You can borrow my couch to sleep it off. LOL Butternut squash sounds better to me than pumpkin anyhow. I've got to go back and write your custard recipe down. I bought a journal type thingie just to write recipes in. I also need to start keeping a notebook handy just to jot down valuable info when reading this and the FF thread. I can't ever go back and find what I want!

Yeah always my favorite because I always got stuck eating the fried back. Mama's do that.

They are better than the heart and liver combined! If you think about it, the liver filters out more toxins than do the kidneys, so they should have more yuck factor than kidneys. I've grown to not really like kidneys much, so the kidneys are my little organ treat.

Try it one time and I guarantee you won't think liver is so grand any longer...the kidneys have more flavor and are juicier by far.

Buying chicken in the grocery store, they don't remove those do they?

No, they don't...it adds weight in sneaky little ways and they are all for that. Most people don't even notice them all tucked down in that lumbar space and so they are cooking them while in the bird and everything.
