The Front Porch Swing

Thanks to everyone for your prayers, I have seen God work in my life and the lives of others, I do not know the answer to why but for me that is not necessary.

Amen! I understand that completely. It's no longer necessary for me to know why now either..I just trust and it's sufficient for me. I love that feeling!

Oh yeah, I have seen where God was working when I thought He wasn't even listening. Still I act like a brat sometimes when I hit a hard spot that lasts too long.

Actually, that dog is probably still putting out pups from this cross...their neighbor owns the lab/father.     There are "Jakes" all over that county.  Two of the gals I worked with got his siblings but they didn't do anything with them at all and they lived bad lives, both are dead now.

The genes and stars might not of lined up just right on all the other siblings. I need a Jake! lol

That sounds great!!!! I live in La. so maybe you wouldn't mind if I lifted your idea of Rainbow Eggs sign. I don't even have my pullets yet and already people are wanting on my "list" for eggs. Love it.
blessed.

Absolutely! Just be warned, there's a copyrighted Happy Hens out there. That's so great that you found a chicken loving "little old lady"!

That is too funny..... Probably smelled good. "Hey mom would love this..."

I used to have a cross eyed tuxedo kitty named Jake.. He would climb the fence like a lineman. He couldnt see to jump up.... One day he came to the back door carrying what looked like a mouse... I said "Hey Jake you caught one" He came in all proud and dropped it on the floor took a bat at it with one six finger paw and missed.... tried again and it rolled further in the room..... "Aww Jake you brought me such a lovely..... Plum" The tree next door had an old rusted car underneath and the tree was a plum tree. .... Another day he brought me a Ball point pen.... Holding it like a mighty hunter by decorative end to keep it from dragging the end.

The next day I went out and there was Toby's crispy carcass in the yard...Jake had brought him back, right where Fanny is lying right now. Up by the coop, where Jake apparently feels they belong.
That's so sad for poor Jake. I agree with everyone else, if I could find a smart dog (not a chihuahua with a pink harness) I would be more of a dog person. As it is, I'm even going off cats.

I'm sorry you had to dispatch those girls.  It is really hard.  I've had to do it too and I've shed many a  tear over it.  But its better to protect the rest of the flock than to allow them to possibly get infected with the same thing... eventually losing your entire flock.

Bee, your Jake has broken my heart.  :hit

He is a lab mix?  Do you know what the other part is?  How old was he when you got him?  There are some lab mixes  here locally but they're only 8 weeks old and I DO NOT want another house dog.  Nor do I want a dog who will play with the local strays.  How does Jake treat other dogs?  If you have coyotes where you live, does he keep them away?

@Windy Bay Farm... Sorry about your birds. I know that wasn't easy. I hope that is the end of the problem.

Thanks LB and TDubya... Not something I wanted to do with those girls being so young but I really don't believe in antibiotics so I thought is best for them and the remainder of the flock. My heart about sunk to my feet when I did it, but it's for the best.

A agree with you and yep, I prolly would have had a good cry.

Now, TW...you know there are "no bad dogs, just bad owners"~the pitty owners creed.

Jake's sibs were very smart pups but they had very not smart humans that didn't make them mind. Well, you know what happens when the dog is smarter than the master....it makes for disaster.

May I join?

Absolutely!!  :hugs Grab a chair and spin us a story!
Thanks, Bee and Lisa ! I appreciate your thoughts and prayers. This is in The Lord's hands now and come what may, it will be His will.

Amen.  And that is sufficient.

I am at least a half bubble off level and they welcomed me with opened arms, please join, I will put up another swing for Bee.

:gig   We call that "half a bubble off plumb" in these parts!  Thank you for the extra swing....I think we may even need to expand the porch!  :woot

He is Lab/Blue Merle Border Collie.  He likes to play with strays, though, so I back him up with the rifle.  We have a coyote pack that circles our clearing here and Jake stands them off...sometimes I will go out and howl at them with him and we have a regular sing song....shuts them 'yotes right up.  Let's 'em know he has a back up pack member.  I love to hear the 'yotes singing.  We also have a few resident black bears and grey foxes.

I got him as a 2 mo. old pup and trained him then on all the commands he knows now...took a couple of evenings in the house to do that, with food as the motivator.  He's mondo brilliant and I could probably train him for about anything if I would put in the time.  Took about 20 min. to train him on chickens at 5 mo. of age and he hasn't broke training since~he killed his first coon at that age.  He's a keeper.

:hugs Thank you for letting me join!!
