I was thinking to do some kind of "gift baskets" in them ... ingredients for pound cake or something (for eggs that have been washed so are refrigerated). I love the idea of delivering unwashed eggs in the "Display Baskets." If I put two dozen eggs in each basket it isn't that much more than paper cartons. And the baskets are washable, which is an advantage over paper cartons.
I need to find the shrink wrap bags ... I've never heard of such a thing.![]()
People are idiots.... urrg. Where I am I have to use local handymen.... They usually require a bit of money up front.... Work a day then disappear for a week. I had one fellow go through the DTs while working on my bathroom rehab. He did good work drunk or sober though. but once he got an install ment... whew zip he was gone for a week. The other one who tiled my floor was a Tweaker.... Oh but he did goood work. Everything could be measured within the thickness of a hair..... once paid "Just a little to get groceries" He was gone for a week.OK, please pray for me! I am really close to losing my temper and giving up!!!!!
I called a guy that I found on Craigslist, that builds buildings. I explained roughly where we are, and asked if he would come that far to build a building for my husband. Basically, so that my husband could have it done without having to take off work to build it himself. Anyway...... He told me yes, he would come do it and told me to text him the size building, and the color shingles, and that he would call me a few days before he was heading over here to do it. He called me on Friday asking if he could come Monday and start on it. I told him yes that was fine, and he wanted me to text him the address..... I texted it to him last night.... Then about an hour ago, he texts me and tells me that he thought I lived in "XTOWN" and that I was too far for him to drive... sorry. I live less than 15 minutes from "XTOWN"!!!!!!!![]()
This actually breaks my heart. I'll try to tell myself he is doing his job of guarding, but not mourning, your birds. That will make me feel better.
Dogs are awesome. <3 Toby!
He's just really sensitive. He is the first dog I've ever had like this. He doesn't have the capacity to reason out death and the whys and wherefors. I think it has a lot to do with a high pack mentality and just a heightened sensitivity towards pack changes. He's not a pack leader or second in command, so it probably makes him more agitated when a pack member is gone because it makes him feel insecure about his own status. The chickens are part of his pack, as were the sheep when we had them.
It does sort of make me sad that he feels that way but I can't change Jake...he is a strange sort of dog. I think that's why I like him because he's like me in a way...we both feel things deeply, though from a different perspective.
I wish I had went to YOUR party.....Mine had some tasty but cheapo junk food of pizza, wings, chips, dip, cake, ice cream, soda and punch. No imagination or anything particularly yummy. It had a lot of tension, I found out my soon to be new grand baby might have a cleft palate(judging from the ultrasound pics) and no one wanted to talk about chickens. It did have some comedic moments but overall I was glad to go home.![]()
All that food sounds positively YUM!![]()
Total bummer of an evening. Sorry![]()
Hi! Is there room for one more on your porch? Winter is getting long and feeling cold (-30F last night) here in Saskatchewan, Canada. The thought of sitting outside on a porch with friends and seeing flowers, hearing birds and watching chickens outside sounds wonderful. I started reading this thread from the beginning, but skipped ahead now to say hi. Thanks for starting this thread. I'm planning on going back and catching up on what I've missed.
I'm amazed at how hardy my chickens are. They are in an insulated, unheated little "barn". It's usually 10 or 15 degrees warmer than outside. On days it gets as high as 10F, I open their outside door and they push each other to get outside first. I put straw on the snow and they love scratching through it. We've had a long 3 week stretch when they've had to stay inside and I'm hoping it will warm up soon. Once it warms up here, you're all welcome to come sit on our verandah and enjoy our long days in the summer.![]()
