The Front Porch Swing

Gee Bee, I'm not sure what I said that made the cat people mad at me. Might have been shooting them...no, that couldn't have been it because I didn't say I'd shoot them. Might have been the trapping...I did say that. Might have been pointing out how risky it can be for the cats out there in big old world...wait, they said that they've never had a sick or injured cat so that probably wasn't it either. Now the possibility exists that I questioned why only the non-owners have to make changes and adjustments so that cats they don't even own are safe and comfortable and they didn't like that....

Oh, well, it doesn't matter now. We all made up and they said I could come out and play again.

So ALL better.

:gig   When I pass through that I inhale deeply and smile....and hope it's still there when I drive back that way again.  It's funny how different folks can be about something like that.

Mike loves the smell of skunk too. When we pass a skunk kill on the highway he always says, "SLOW DOWN, don't you just love that smell honey? I just LOVE how a skunk smells!!"

Silly city boy :)

That's a tad different than how I get in trouble about cats...I get in trouble when I say how cruel it is to keep them in a house all their lives.

Same with dogs.

In case anyone missed it, the recipegoldmine.com site is so fantastic. Dozens and I mean dozens of recipes with Nutella. There must me a thousand different kinds of food groups and recipes. I think I'll keep it pulled up constantly just for enjoyment.

Lol - I found a bread recipe that called for layers of nutella - it sounded incredibly yummy - waaaay too time consuming though. Spread and layer, 3 times, cut almost through the middle, twist and secure and voila! She made it sound like it only took 20 min or so. I KNOW better.

Yeah, how did it go? By the way, I never shave my legs in winter. Acts like Velcro and keeps my socks up.
I like that excuse, I'm going to borrow it!

Look at this trio! From left to right:

A Black Australorp/Rhode Island Red mix. She lays huge eggs and got scalped as a chick, hence the funny head feathers.
Granny: a little NN mutt. Not sure what she is a mix of other than NN. She just looks like a grandmother, though, so she's a keeper!
Che, our handicapped Indian runner. He's just weird.
You've got me curious now - what's the story with Che? I know they get a little weird when by themselves - my Buff keeps trying to attract the rooster, she has friends in the brooder.

I probably did. Um, I think could be more certain though if I could see the rest of his face......jest sayin'.....

We had a stray cat once, now we have all her offspring. However, stray males get shot and any that decide to go crazy and attack the others (it happened) also get shot. They don't set foot in the door.

So here I am, playing catch-up on the porch. I've made just about the entire free world mad at me about the cats. Unrest, mayhem, fury - my work there is done. Loved the skunk herder story! What an imagination! I'm sorry that a chick was lost. I agree that usually nature knows better than we do what's going on. I just wish the remedies weren't always so harsh. I read all the posts, but I have the hardest time getting comments in there because I don't know how to do that thingy where you can quote a few posts at one time and then reply to each of them in one comment. I'm a nice lady (despite what the people in the cats thread think - just not the brightest crayon in the box!
Well I haven't figured that one out yet either!

But then it becomes my problem. <groan> I give......UNCLE!

I love it here on the porch - and I'd like to be able to stay!

Only in town, honey....and I don't advocate folks even have pets in town or a city. Hardly even fit for human life, let alone animal life. Out in the country is where animals belong...all the habitat in the towns, burbs and cities have been taken up by humans and there is no fit place there for animals....except maybe rats and squirrels.

My in-laws live in a retirement village in Washington State, with a big dog. They take their dog out for 1-2 hour walks twice a day. I think if you're going to live in a town, you have to be willing to do this or it's just not fair to the dog. Their retirement village also has a fenced "dog play yard" where the dogs can run without a leash, and lots of places to walk - and it gets the humans out of the house and healthy at the same time.
