Thanks...Do you know what you are, Deb? You're a "yesser". Now don't get riled and throw your glass at me...being a "yesser" is a good thing. It was a name my dad had for people who see a situation and ask themselves if they really think they can make a difference. Most folks get uncomfortable and look away instead of asking someone in a wheelchair trying to reach something, "May I get that down for you? How many packages do you need?" Most folks see someone in the place your new friend is (and yep, in his mind you have become his friend) and automatically assume they want a handout to buy drugs or booze. But a "yesser" thinks, "Yes, I can make a one moment difference for this person" and then does it. The whole time the "yesser" rarely realizes that he's just done more for himself than he did for the one he helped. You, my friend, are a "yesser!" Dad would be grinning!
Yes... but not in the way a person might think. I cant explain it.@Deb... That makes you feel good doesn't it?![]()
Hebrews 13:1-3
1. Let love of the brethren continue. 2 Do not neglect to show hospitality to strangers, for by this some have entertained angels without knowing it. 3 Remember the prisoners, as though in prison with them, and those who are ill-treated, since you yourselves also are in the body.
Good Morning Laura! I am praying that today is a better day. Like you said you have been out of the working world for quite a while. The important thing you learned is that people aren't like chickens. Now that that shocking information is over, you will be able to deal with your boss.Ah, this thread relaxes me. I got home from work a couple hours ago with the worst headache ever. All had been going well until my boss called and told me that I needed to print 15 copies of a poster, not 2. He didn't tell me that at all, he just said to print the file. Gah!
I'm just hoping to get more into the mesh of things. The first day is always the hardest, right? Because I had several awfully ungrateful thoughts today, just wishing he would realize I'm no good at this and fire me.
As soon as I got home, I popped a couple Tylenol and went straight out to the flock to feed them and watch the chicks. It helped immensely. Afterwards, I made some jello and just now I enjoyed it while watching some silly cartoons. I just need to let this all roll off me.
I have so many issues to work through tomorrow. The boss will be in tomorrow an hopefully he'll show me how to troubleshoot that darn printer. It had nearly finished printing a poster when it said there was an error. According to the manual, the only way to "fix" that problem is to nix all that you'd just printed, restart the printer, and do it all over again. How awful, especially when a business must save paper so that it can be economical.
Part of me wishes I could stick to my freelancing and just be around my chickens. Heck, I'd go back to the other print shop if they wanted me! At least there, they knew that I wasn't versed in printers/screen printing and would just let me be a graphic designer and not their Jack of All Trades.
The only consolation is that I will be able to pay off my student loans this year if I play my cards right. That makes this more worthwhile. If nothing else, I want my FICO score to be brilliant so I can get a loan for a property.
Okay, rant over. My head is sore.
Yes... but not in the way a person might think. I cant explain it.
I am not a religious person but I am spiritual and an empath. I believe we are here on this earth to learn something.... but I still havent really figured that out.

Awesome! I commiserate with the tool situation.![]()
So are you getting the house?
Yep My list is different but I have one. Everything below has cold hearty versions.... cold for us is about two weeks worth of snow and couple of months where Occasionally the temps dip down low enough to freeze the top of the horse waterer.
Oranges
Lemons
Limes
Kumquats
Fig
Pomegranate
Dates
These trees usually need a hard frost but the ones below will live and bear fruit down by the coast.
Apple
Pear
Almond
These bear fruit or are edible and are native.
Prickly Pear Cactus also known as Nopal Catcus
Mesquite (for the seed pods whole seed pods can be ground for flour)
Spanish Bayonnette Yucca. Fruit can be eaten raw or cooked. So can the flowers.... the seeds can be pounded or ground for flour. The leaves can be pounded for their fiber and the fiber can be used for weaving or rope making. The root can be used for making soap.

They are just mutt chicks but adorable. I will try to get pictures later today.
We had friends come over yesterday for corned beef and cabbage, Irish soda bread, and a new recipe I tried for an Irish apple cake. Very easy and my husband won't stay out of it. I topped it with a little whipped cream flavored with Irish Cream Whiskey. Yum. I'll have to bake another one for everyone on the porch..
Today I am taking it easy. We have had dinner guest 3 times this week. I guess everyone needs to get out after this winter. We should have a high of 58 today. That means the motorcycles will be out in Ohio. I need to be out in the barn and coop cleaning up the winter debris...but it is still mud season. We are supposed to have good weather all week so it is time to start. The seeds I started indoors are starting to sprout and spring fever is setting in.
Got a rooster I am going to have to cull soon. He is one I hatched last fall and the competition crowing with my original roo is driving me crazy. Good thing we don't have close neighbors.
Hope everyone has a good week.
Congrats on the new place! How exciting! Oh, and sorry. Um, that hundred pages might be partly my fault - I tend to be a little wordy, and since my candidacy for Story Laureate of the Chicken Forum I may have gotten just a hair carried away. I could retire my Story Bucket for a little while.....
Might I suggest, instead of spray painting the handles of the tools you want left alone, using flowerdy duct tape? You know something really girly that the guys wouldn't be caught dead using. I'm afraid spray paint, combined with testosterone logic, would mean it wouldn't be long before you'd be hearing, "Nah, I got that paint on that accidentally when I was over working on Mrs. Bafamada's garage door opener, remember?" or some such thing. But using girly duct tape proves two things - you KNOW and appreciate the value of duct tape, and you are deadly serious about protecting your stuff. Jest a thought........
And I repeat my earlier complaint about chicken math - I'm still working out how 14 chicks ended up with 140 butts.
