The Front Porch Swing

Forgive me, Lisa! I knew not what I said! <sigh> My brain is too full of dust to think clearly!

I don't have a hearing issue, so says I, but I use the closed captioning so I don't have the tv very loud!
My husband and others have used the Closed Captioned because the background noises drone out the voices.

Lisa :)

Thanks! The coop isn't built yet, or they'd have been brooded out there from the get-go. Our nighttime temps are still down into the teens, low 20's. So you think that I could go ahead and start weening them off the heat here in the house?
Oh yeah, if you start in the house, they'll learn to keep each other warm and to not rely on the light. I always forget that other places actually have real winters and not the "winter" we have down here in South Texas, haha! When I put the chicks out, it was only 58 degrees outside (not very cold in comparison to your weather now), but I wasn't ready to put them out there, haha! However, they did well and adapted quickly. I even put the quail out there with them and some of the chicks will hang around them to keep warm. They learned really quickly that even though the lamp was warm, being huddled close together was better.

Everyone....I just realized something.

I'm Overrun With Chickens! When the heck did that happen?!

In fact, it's been nearly a year since I joined this site and a little more than a year since I actually started caring for chickens at all! I've seen and done so many things since I started, too.

Three clutches of eggs have been hatched. About 30 trips to the feed and farm store. Three iffy trips to strangers houses to buy/sell birds.

Two feed experiments, both successful. I've "met" about 200 people since I've started loving them. I'm so happy! I hadn't realized that so much had happened in the year that I've had them. It's been a blessing, truly.
Here's to another year of chickens!

Wow starting a new job AND going off your meds.... Brave Brave girl.... LOL

Yep San Diego is pretty dang close and I am guessing we are at about 50 percent Hispanic. Couple of my favs is Mexican Shrimp Cocktail.... I will NEVER eat the other kind again, Unless its free....LOL. Pozole Oh yumm... And of course fish tacos. there is a place in town by the coast that does a Shrimp Pozole... I have to try it. Pozole is normally pork. Then there are Tripas tacos... very rich I can only eat two street tacos. I wont go into Mexico any more after I worked at a Maquiladora for a while. Very long story that.... Love the people very much disliked the Jefe Grande.

For what its worth tell your friends that Alcahol is the only drug that Can kill you if you go cold turkey, People that are at that level have to have a small amount regularly througout the day. That being said giving food is a better choice when possible. Or a blanket in the winter....

My son thinks I am nuts because I will speak to anyone who is open to a conversation.... for instance I was standing in line at the grocery store and there was a full on Hells Angel in front of me... I noticed his tattoos and particularly the ones around his elbows... I figure someone who does that kind of decorating wants people to notice.... So I complemented him on his tattoos and asked if the spider webs on his elbows hurt.... HE grinned and said Yep it hurt like HECK. only he didnt say heck.... LOL. I told my son later on that chatting with people in Line is a way to pass the time and you never know what kind of people you meet under their facads.

Oh and it really sounds like your boss has a lot of faith in you.... Keep the deep breaths going and dont let Anxiety grab up the reins.... Speaking from experience.

Blooie, I'm sure someone else here can correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think I'd put mine out until the night temps are at least in the mid-40's and then when they're fully feathered. UNLESS you have an alternate way for them to get warm.

Good luck, perchie! and have a great day

Blooie, try planting the blueberries into a bag of peat moss. slash the bag so it can drain, then bury it. Soak it really well with water, you want to make sure it is wet completely through. Plant the blueberry bush into the bag. Now, this was recommended to me by a local master gardener and I haven't had a chance to try it, but more than one person have recommended it to me.
The trip was exhausting but a success....

shes got loaner hearing aids to get used to till tomorrow when her new hearing aids get delivered.....

AND we got the replacement placard at the DMV in and out in less than a half hour..... AMAZING accomplishment with this DMV and because the parkinglot is always full we had to walk all the way across it... Me on my crutches and Grandma with her walker..... Needless to say we are having naps later.
