The Front Porch Swing

Heard wild turkeys gobblin' this morning! Spring! Spring! Spring! .....it has sprung.

It's been a beautiful day, the birds are all in full voice singing off their territories and the deer are on the move for new spring graze.

Will be seeding clover in the meadow this week and planting seeds for my garden soon...will use the same heating pad to warm them as they grow. This heating pad is gettin' a work out.

Yeah. Boing. <sigh>

Well, I didn't see the huskies here while I was outside with the gun. So, since I already had the gun out and loaded, I decided to shoot a little. This is only the second time I have ever shot a gun.... I was about 40 yards away.

Me too! My grandpa used to mix butter and honey or jelly. He was an amazing man and I miss him terribly. Remind me to tell you all some stories when I am on the computer and not my phone.

Bee the only way I can give them more room is to move them out to the old coop..... think they would ok? They are a a few days old and then the whites are a week and a half....I can run a light down there but wasn't sure they would stay warm.

I *was* gonna wait until I finished reading the entire thread before saying anything, but, had to pipe in with the fact that my Daddy was a Kentucky hillbilly (born up a holler, 13 brothers and sisters, no electricity/indoor plumbing, only ate what they killed or grew) and I adored him...every Sunday it was my job to mix the fresh honey-butter and jelly-butter to go on the cornbread and biscuits. After breakfast my sisters and I took turns baking two pies for my dad for the week.

I still keep a container of honey-butter on hand at all times =)

Oh! I'm having a glass of iced tea that I brewed yesterday and stretching out the kinks from putting in my 4 x 12 raised kitchen garden. In the brooder I have my very first baby flock of three Barred Rocks and two RIRs...I am enchanted by those little girls :)

My first babies are coming March 27 and I'm so excited. A real thrill. Stay and sit a while ok?

Thanks, Linda! This is such a nice, supportive thread in a generally helpful community...I am finding that "chicken people are good folks".
Almost caught up on everything, on page 146 of 169 (reading on my phone).
I'm Heidi in South Carolina :)

Hey Heidi, I'm from outside of Shreveport in La. Hot country. Just remember, don't stump your toe, you'll miss 50 pages. These are prolific writing ladies. I'm not that quick thinking but I have a lot of fun listening to all their stories. I have a few too.
