Sexing chickens is hard. Even the experts get it wrong. I can't imagine trying to keep more than one of the same type of chick straight from the others. I will be finding that out one of these days. I'm going to paint their toenails to keep them straight. Someone remind me to write down who has what colour or I will forget. lol!

Nice!!

What are you talking about? You surprise us all the time.

Aww, shucks....yer jest sayin' that...... Teehee I'd scuff my toes in the dirt but I finally got a around to sweeping today. Oh, AND got the dust cleaned up out of Ken's office! Yayyy for me!

Are you on your phone, computer or other device?
On the computer there are all sorts of icons rt above where you post your reply...kinda like the toolbar. Well, ok it is a toolbar. So, go to the square that have what looks like mountains and then a sun (or moon) in the top left hand corner. Click on that and you can choose a pic you have on the device you are using. If you have a pic on your phone, and you are using your computer, you will have to send the pic from your phone to your computer and save it. Then you can upload it from the icon on the toolbar. But you should have that icon on all the devices you use when you get on BYC.
I cannot tell you how happy I am to hear this. I have a few pictures of my babies and will get more. Now I know. Thank you, thank you.

I forgot to tell you what else happened today:

The Itsy Bitsy Spider ran through the chicken pen,
Right past the rooster and in between the hens.
None of the chickens who should have been alert,
Saw the Itsy Bitsy Spider, so he got through unhurt.

But the Itsy Bitsy Spider made a small mistake,
Running up the coop wall was quite a chance to take,
Before he knew what happened he landed on his back,
Eyeball to eyeball with Blooie's hungry flock.

The Itsy Bitsy Spider wound up in Charlie's mouth,
Pearl swatted Charlie and knocked the Spider out,
Gladys pounced behind them and swallowed him right quick,
And the Itsy Bitsy Spider wondered why the heck he didn't just crawl up the stoopid garage.

It's very, very quiet out there in the night and my new LGD is on duty. He seems to like patrolling this place and acts like he has been here all his life. The electric confinement system cannot work on his level of hair thickness, so he is on his own recognizance right now. If he roams, he will have to go to another place to live as he will more than likely get shot by a neighbor or hit on the road.

So far he is showing no inclination to leave the immediate yard. Today I walked the boundary of the meadow with him and will do so each day that I can until he gets the idea of "boundary". Tomorrow will call vets and get comparison prices for neutering. Will also get his rabies shot and pick up some flea stuff.

Looks like Ben is going to work out. Jake has finally accepted him, he doesn't chase or kill chickens, he poops up in the woods, he doesn't eat much and he is pretty well behaved. He's not food aggressive and I can put my hand right into his kibble and play with it without him showing signs of anxiety or tension. He does bark at deer and runs them off, which I don't like...I really like all the benign creatures in this meadow/woods to live in harmony and so far we have, but Ben feels they are a threat to his territory.

God has brought us a dog and for that I am thankful. Not too often we add new dogs to the family...the last one was 8 yrs ago. Not sure just why He wanted us to have this one but I guess we'll know why eventually. I predict a lot more dog hair in our future and the Ol' Bat will freak about that. Funny thing...this dog has a very pleasant smell and doesn't even have bad breath. His fur smells sort of like livestock...horses, cattle and hair sheep.

Will get pics as soon as I can. He's not very clean and it's likely he will stay that way...I can't even imagine the level of soap it would take to penetrate that fur and I wouldn't want to wash out his protective oils anyway. He'll have to be cleaned by nature, like Jake.

Great name for him! Here is a pic of one of my guys!
Is he dubbed? I need to learn to do this. My daughter loves OEGB and has a hen that won grand champion last year. We found a gorgeous cockrel but he didn't make it through our winter. I would love to find another but to show I would have to dub him.
