Let me check the catalog I have for maturity times. Okay, Mortgage Lifter says 83 days to harvest, but if you start them inside you'll be way ahead of that curve. The Heirloom Rainbow Blend is 80 - 100 days, but again starting them inside gives you a leg up on that. I've always done that - ordered seeds from Gurney's and started them inside, and I never had any problems. They don't ship plants until it's time to plant in your individual zone, but we don't fit into the regular zones because we are high desert, so we have a much warmer micro-climate here than in surrounding areas. We got tired of all of the nurseries deciding for us when to plant and holding off our shipping until they thought our area was ready. But seeds they ship when you order. Good luck! Thank you I will order. Always wanted to try to grow those. Never even tasted them! What you were saying about farmers markets hits home. I live in Mennonite country, so Brandywine tomatoes, fabulous winter keeper apples, keeper squash, maple syrup, jams etc are easily available and I like supporting the community and being, at least on the consumer side, part of a low tech movement.

But there's nothing to compare with walking outside in late summer, inspecting the garden, trug in hand, thinking, okay, what's for supper?

Oh you are so right...., especially tomatoes fresh from the vine and still warm from the sun! But then too there's nothing like saying, "I'll hit the Farmer's Market today and buy enough beets to put in the freezer today" or "Gee, it's a little nippy - be a good day to run down, pick up and can some beans." and then being able to get to it on my schedule, not when everything's ready all at one time and demanding to be preserved or it'll rot!

When all my kids lived at home, it was always such a mad rush to get it all done!

Oh, that's so exciting! I can't wait to see them when they hatch and then when they get all fluffy! I was proud of me today - went to Billings' TSC to get the cattle panels for the girls' (and Charlie's) run, and I walked right past the bins of babies. Well, I walked right by them and glanced at them......well, I stood there for just a second and looked at them.....well, I stood there and stared at them.....okay, I gawked and ooh-ed and ahh-ed if you're gonna be technical. But I didn't buy any. I thought about it, but then I remembered that I have 22 at home just like 'em only bigger, and the urge passed. Yayyy for me and self control!

Way to go, Blooie....way to have control!
