HI J.... Yep they will poo a little. They are stuffed to the gills with egg yolk... enough to last them without eating for three days.

Chickens dont pee perse. They do excrete uric acid along with their poo.. So iits just a juicy little baby poo.

Oh AND Welcome to the Porch..... I am having water again because it was hot here today ... I may try my hand making some lemonaid this week. Lots of nibbllies and different drinks on the porch. Dont sit on Blooies bucket or the bucket with the Caution tape on it... There is a turtle in there....

Oh and dont sit on the railing... Someone got paddled for that. You are welcome to share my bench.

So How long have you had chickens what kind are they?

Call me deb or Perchie.... perchie is short for Percheron.... deb is short for...um well its just short. I have had dogs most of 59 years now Horses for 47 chickens for about 20 (I still call myself just a little more than a novice).... Had all sorts of critters as an adult... I have one son who is 25 going on 40 LOL

deb

Hey Deb Thanks for the info.. the poo did look a little yolky (if that's a word) I have had chicken since 8:40 this morning.

my first hatch ever. I have 10 Austroplop eggs and 2 ameraucana. so far 1 ameraucana and 5 austrolops have hatched. I have 20 rhode island red eggs coming in a few weeks.

Wish it was hot here today. we got 2-3 inches of snow last night. not a happy camper. I have a dog, border collie lab mix ,a wonderful dog, but she's getting old and it's starting to get hard for her to get around. that is making me really sad. I love that ol' girl. We also have a cat.

I have a son who just turned 27 but he still thinks he's 19 lol.. Good guy but is afraid to get married to his girl friend of 5 years because he would have to he a grown up????? yah I don't get it either. but he's on his own living his life about a mile from here so I'm good.
My daughter is 25, she is married to a great guy. and is a 5th grade teacher. she lives about half hour away. she loved that we live streamed the chicks hatching so she could have her class watch.
also a 19 year old son living at home yet, but has a decent job. he's trying to figure life out in his own unique way. He is the one I have cried over, lost the most sleep over, and got the most grey hair over, but I love him to death.
also a 17 year old son, jr. in high school he goes to school on line. he is my IT guy. and a sweet soul. I will miss him when he heads to college. He didn't get any school work done today because he couldn't stop watching the chicks hatch.
I'll be drinking hot chocolate on the porch for a while, good luck with your lemonade. Jen

I'm so tired my tired is tired. But we got a lot done. Hope I can wake up in time to run out to the Pryors and see the blood moon. I guess we're supposed to be able to see the moon red, and then right next to it Mars will be orange and very clear. So far the skies are clear, but this is Wyoming - that could change before I finish typing this.

But we made progress!!

It was so cold working out there this morning that we had a Mr. Heater out there - didn't help, but Molly found a nice place to watch the action.

We're whittling the project list down. The posts are set. Now tomorrow we put in the people door and the tunnel for the girls (and Charlie) to get into the run from the coop. Then the hardware cloth and the batter boards, but that won't take too long because we prepped for it today as well. And doggone it - I took a picture of Ken standing in front of the giant tree trunk but for some reason it didn't push to my computer. So I'll find it and see if I can post it from my iPad.

Hey guys! You've all been busy! I've not really had alot going on, so I've just been reading and sitting in the corner quietly! Chicks are great, both sets! I had a great egg day with 16 out of 18 laying! I'm still waiting on egg #2 from the BCM pullet! I'm beginning to think that she has a hidden nest somewhere.... I sure hope not! I may have to pen her up and see... or I guess I could use Bee's digital exam...
Quite a day! I vote for doing Bee's digital exam....LOL Glad the babies are still doing well.

I think it's cool that you could live stream the hatch!

Welcome to our newest porch sitter - I'm so sorry but I forgot your name and I'm too lazy to scroll back.

Well, I've made a decision. When I first ordered chicks in Jan. I ordered 25. 5 each of White Dorkings, Blue Ameracauna, New Hampshire and Lt Sussex. 5 extra assorted, all 25 standard run. Then I found out I couldn't get them until May or so . So I placed a hatchery order for White rocks, Golden Comets and Delaware. I've decided I don't want all the others.. I want to concentrate on prime White Rocks. Probably next year. So I cancelled my first order today and will continue with my 16 babies. As far as I can tell I only have one white rock rooster. Everybody else is a pullet. Yea!!! Sandhill people were very nice and accommodating and will refund my money w/i 2 wks. I don't know if there is a cancellation fee or not but not worrying. I do want one really good New Hampshire rooster. So I can make red sex links.
What are your thoughts. Mistake? I did so want the dorkings.

Not a mistake if that's what you wanted to do, I don't think. You'll be much happier if you can concentrate on the ones that you really want to work with.

Our 8 Chicks are now almost 2 weeks old. Here is Zinnia at one day old.I got a building permit for our coop today. The 4x4 posts are in the ground...We are building a 4 x 8 coop with a covered run...and terrified by all the stories of predators.

Blooie, that looks great!!! Will you cover it in the winter time? What a wonderful hubby you have to do all that for you.

Mistake to raise WRs only? I think not!

If I get the roo I think I'm getting, I'll try to send you some WR eggs next year...they will be out of the best lines out there, IMO. I'm heading the same direction you are and a few of the nicest people on BYC are helping that dream come true for me, so I can help you if I have viable eggs to send.
