The Front Porch Swing

How is your goat? I am sorry if I missed that post.

For dinner I had baked chicken breast, cooked it over green onions and red peppers, then I made baked broccoli with mushrooms and peppers, served with a side of rice and side of avocado.

For those that love broccoli but want something other than steamed, bake it! I bake all my veggies that I used to steam, brings out soooooo much more flavor. I just throw them in a bag with olive oil, garlic, salt and pepper then pop in the oven, soooooooo good!!!
This is no longer relevant, but please excuse me as I'm catching up on about fifteen pages of posts. My biggest complaint about American food is that y'all don't know how to cook your veggies! Get some ground pork and bell peppers and stir-fry your broccoli, all Chinese kids like broccoli and it's no wonder, too, the stuff is so good stir-fried.

Good job Blooie!!

No chicks here yet. I'm still waiting for my Delawares to hatch. I really hope some do hatch!!! I will be so frustrated if hey don't!

The chickens were screaming again super early this morning, so I woke Dad up and sent him out there to get his personal proof there really is a raccoon prowling our poultry area. The raccoon ran away from Dad ... guess Dad is more scary than I am ... it's a young one. I pointed out it didn't give birth to itself.

The pest patrol guy came today and set four traps baited with gophers. I hope we get 4 raccoons tonight. I'm a little confused about why "we" didn't do this ourselves, but as I'm a weenie I'm not going to ask.

LindaB, I think there is plenty of time to get other breeds later if you find you really want them.

Howdy Jen.

Blooie, that looks great!!! Will you cover it in the winter time? What a wonderful hubby you have to do all that for you.

Mistake to raise WRs only? I think not!

If I get the roo I think I'm getting, I'll try to send you some WR eggs next year...they will be out of the best lines out there, IMO. I'm heading the same direction you are and a few of the nicest people on BYC are helping that dream come true for me, so I can help you if I have viable eggs to send.

Welcome to The Porch!!!

Sit down and enjoy the breeze....right now it's 55* with a cool breeze and a whippoorwill is singing up on the ridge. Your chick is a cutie!!

What a nice gesture!!! Thank you so much. The best way to pay it forward. Do nice things for others.

Glad you all like the run...hope the girls (and Charlie) like it too! Found my big tree pics....We can't span it all of us holding hands, and it's height matches its girth! Oh, and that's my Ken - I'm so blessed to have him. We've worked side by side on this coop and run for quite awhile now, and we still like each other! When I start to get irritated I just remember, "Don't you know by now that if you didn't like the color of the sky I'd try to change it for you?" Yep, I am indeed blessed!

LJ, I can only imagine what these poor guys feel like when you point out the obvious....probably standing there scratching their heads and feeling like a doofus.

I hope you get your Delawares....if I could afford the shipping I'd overnight you a full grown hen I have. She's on my cull list for having a nasty temper and only being a fair layer but she's got the correct coloring and conformation.

What a nice gesture!!! Thank you so much. The best way to pay it forward. Do nice things for others.

Yep...that's all these folks really asks too. Pay it forward when the time comes. I like that philosophy.

That's a HUGE tree, Blooie.

I love big old trees like that....just think how many things they've seen in their lifetime. Oh, if those leaves could only talk....

Our 8 Chicks are now almost 2 weeks old. Here is Zinnia at one day old.I got a building permit for our coop today. The 4x4 posts are in the ground...We are building a 4 x 8 coop with a covered run...and terrified by all the stories of predators.

It is snowing here in Northwest Indiana AGAIN!!!....PS...I love porch swings...have three
soooooooooooooooo cute!

I whipped up a treat for my girls' 7 week "birthday." Yoplait yogurt and sunflower kernels. Don't know the exact proportions. I kept adding sunflower meats until the yogurt stood still in the dish. They gobbled it right down. Almost expected a knock on the door and one of them holding out the dish asking for more.

30% protein
30% fat
from the sunflowers.

The yogurt was their standard formula (not lite or fat-free, but also not Greek).

I LOVE broccoli steamed for 2 minutes.

Okay, hope this is the last day working on it! By this evening the coop and the run should be functioning as a single cohesive unit! Whether Blooie will still be functioning at the end of the day is the big question.
