The Front Porch Swing

Hi everyone! I'll check back in tomorrow! I'm heading to bed right now! BUSY BUSY around here!

Oh, any suggestions for poison oak/ivy? I think I have some on my hand... it is very itchy and burns, and has blisters... OUCH!!!!

Lindz, nothing is going to help until you get rid of the oils. The only thing that works is a tube from the pharmacy called Zanfel for $20. OR, you can go to the grocery store or walmarts and go to the laundry dept. There are bars of soap called "laundry soap"

by the name Fels-.Naptha. It's used in making DIY home laundry detergent. When I first heard about it I could get it for a couple of bucks, but in the last 2 wks it's jumped in price. I ordered mine w/Prime from amazon at $5 or so. All the other elements of the homemade detergent have jumped about $5 each also.
I am highly allergic to Poison Ivy and last year I looked like I had the plague. Until I heard about Zanfel. Nothing else is going to help. Promise.

You need to scrub this a least a couple of minutes until it stops stinging. Do this several times a day when it starts stinging again.

Have you ever had fried polk? You cut it up then bread it and fry like okra. I remember eating when I was very young at my grandmother's house. I don't remember it tasting bad. I've never tried Polk Salad. I had a broody last year set under a huge polk plant.

It's about time to start looking for Morel mushrooms.
No I haven't even heard of frying it. Interesting.....

Refresh my memory...does polk taste anything like Lamb's Quarter? I couldn't eat that. I love Kale and Raw Spinach, but not Lamb's Quarter.

Lisa :)

I have had a nice day yesterday and today reading Bee's old thread Chickens for 10-20 years or more? Like 12000 posts when it stops. I'm on about 1000. But I try to keep up with everything going on. Other than deleting some old threads I have been going back to my favorites. And I thought, what am I missing? Sorry, I somehow deleted THIS thread.

The first thing I thought, "No wonder it's been so quiet". I haven't heard from Blooie all day.

I didn't miss Bee because she was in all the other threads. Missed you guys, finally.

I must tell you folks that my babies are doing fabulous. I fed them meat and potatoes for the first time. What a scene. Scrambling and pushing. Diced up potatoes and hambuger meat. Scalloped potatoes Hamburger helper.

They are getting so big. I guess I lied. I said that I have 1 White Rock roo and I believe I have two. That leaves the girls. 3 Delawares, 6 Golden Comets 5 White Rocks. The Comets are biggest and feisty, Then the Rocks. But the Delawares are catching up fast. They have been so puny. The two roos are smaller. Quieter. Ganged up on probably.
They are so ready to go out but I can't until I predator proof the dog kennel. I have the fixings mostly but the guy who is doing it can't until I get the tin for the roof. After payday. But I do have AC now so I keep it set at 84 or so inside. They are happy.

Is anybody else on the porch a pepper freak? I LOVE peppers and spicy food. If I don't grow anything else this year I am going to have a pepper garden. I bought a bottle of dried pepper flavored with lime in a Mexican grocery/restaurant the other day. It is sooo good. I have got to make my own. I'm planting cayennes, serranos, jalapenos, chilis, habanaros and some wussy little bell peppers for my mom. lol

We Are Pepper freaks too. Ever have Hatch Chiles from New Mexico. I think they are how I caught my husband! lol. I make a chile mustard with Hungarian Hot peppers that he puts on everything. We do a chile garden every year. The promise of chiles is how I get him to plow the garden.

Touch me not and Jewel weed are the same plant. A woman who lives close to me knows all the wild cures. The first year I lived here I thought I was going to die from poison ivy and flea bites. She taught me a lot I also worked with the Pueblo Indians and learned many remedies from them. They say that for any poisonous plant the antidote grows close by.

No I have never heard of Hatch Chilis. I bet they are good. Bee gave me a hot pepper spread recipe that I am going to use to can some. Do you have your chili mustard recipe handy. I'd love to try it too. :) Have you ever pickled cayennes? They're good with pizza.

Try shaking a little bit of that on Fruit.... Mangos Peaches, watermellon.... experiment. I went on a kick on it for a while kind of burned out on it.... NO pun in tended.... LOL Have two bottles sitting on my desk.... The one I have is Tajin...

Hottest i will go is fresh Serrano or Smoked Jalepenio or Chipoltle.... Try one Chipoltle in Braised pork for pulled pork sandwiches.... You practiaclly dont need anything else.... but I use a whole head of Garlic peeled and smashed.... Or smashed then peeled... LOL.
And a little tomato based barbeque sauce or just plain ole catsup..... for sweetness. I dont like it real sweat very often.
