The boys came out today and helped us get some spring chores done and it was a good day! They fixed the riding lawn mower and put on new blades. They strung new extension cords through the trees all the way up to the coop for me...no more moving lines to mow. They helped me hill up rows in the garden, lay down suppression cloth, string deer netting around it to keep out chickens and helped haul off some heavy, old, wet hay bales, some metal and farm junk, helped me jimmy rig a creep feeder for the meaties, and brought me some cattle panels for my coop tweak.
In the middle of all that I got more tilling done, planted more flowers and finished planting my seedling trays. My tomatoes are up and some are already forming their second set of leaves. I don't feel too bad about getting them started so late as we are still having some pretty cool weather here and will be clear up into May. Supposed to drop into the 20s again at night this week and only in the 50s-60s in the day, so cool weather hasn't gone completely.
I listed the Hootie Hatch chicks for sale in the locals, along with the Fat Cochin and three of my layer hens, to thin down the flock. I've never sold any of my chickens before, so I have mixed feelings about what kind of homes they may be going to, but I'll give their care over to the Lord and trust that He will see them through their lives. One of the Dels acted a little broody tonight and I hope that is what is happening.....if so, I'll get her to hatch out some WR chicks for me instead of my having to incubate them....it would be good to have a professional on the job, that's for sure. I'll just tell you that it's nice to have my room back and all the hatching paraphernalia out of there, so not looking forward to anymore hatching right now.
We had a great time today and I got to see my grandbaby all day too, so it was a great day! God is so good to me!
I hope everyone else had a wonderful day too!
