The Front Porch Swing

She looks better than I expected but far worse than last time I saw her. Things are in a holding pattern - she got a huge clot in her arm so nothing can be done until the deal with that. They don't want to add more blood thinners for obvious reasons so if it doesn't resolve with conservative treatment they'll go in and remove it today. On our way up to hospital now so I'll know more in a bit. She's a pretty sick little lady, but still has her sense of humor - when I walked in she said, "Oh good - you came for the hardy heart-y party!"

When you get a bolus gun, you'll see the tube has measure markings on it.  I just did 5 cc garlic juice, 5cc ACV, 5 cc raw honey.  Fifteen cc is a normal sheep bolus amount and I just made it up as I went along.  It worked well.  Even worked to rejuvenate a lamb I almost killed through a flubbed castration...and he started to put weight on after that like crazy.  I thought I had lost him for sure as his gums were pale and he couldn't walk after his mom anymore but the bolus put him on his feet in 10 min. and it was all uphill from there.

Sounds good!

I looked out the window this morning to a chicken out running around! One ran out the door yesterday when I was feeding but I thought she came back in so I was thinking maaaybe she didn't go back in...? I go down there and the door is standing open! There were 4-5 out running around. I must have left the door unlatched and the wind blew it open. I sure am thankful a stray dog didn't pay a visit and wipe out the whole bunch!

We're seriously looking into getting a shelter put in

We talked and decided a loan is a small price for peace of mind.. I hate paying the interest, but I would feel terrible if something happened while waiting to save. We can afford it, we just have to make it a priority. We haven't had any really nasty weather since I had my son, so we never had to consider going to a shelter.. last night, staying awake, watching the weather, waiting to make the call to drag three little kids to a community shelter, we realized how bad a situation it is.

With a shelter we can SLEEP in there, during a bad night. They wont have to sleep with their shoes next to their bed, ready to go on a moments notice.

@PerchieGirl Deb... Your fires make our tornados not look so bad. At least with a storm shelter or just a good place in our house we can survive a tornado. Fires are scary!

I like those Barbados too. I know of a vet here who had some years ago. I think he might have the Kats now, not sure.
I find Tornados far scarier...... More horrific.

I understand how to survive fire.... You now when its coming if you listen to the news. Knowing prevailing winds helps too.

I am of the opinion there is NOTHING worth saving with regards to "stuff" you own..... And sad to say that includes livestock. Preparation is key

We each have things in our environment that are inherently dangerous. Heat, Drought, Fires and surprisingly the resultant floods and landslides here. And the occasional earthquake. We adapt.
