Sounds like I'm not the only one having issues on the chicken front. I sold 6 chicks this week..... but then also lost 2 chicks and 2 hens. One of the hens was dead on the nest this morning so I'm guessing she was egg-bound or something along those lines. She was the hen that only laid double yolked eggs about one day a week or so. Coincidentally, the 2 hens were on my cull list for this fall, unless something came up.... Well, something came up.

I'm not sure if the dog has been after them, or what..... He's wearing an electronic training collar for now.... I also set the live trap just in case as well.... Last time I just caught the cat...

Good news Blooie. I will keep you all in my thoughts and prayers.
I find it difficult to convince people I am not depressed or suicidal when I say I am excited for the after life. I have a good life here and many people I love very very much. It is not like I am in a hurry to die however I don't fear death. I worry about the process of dying but not about what happens after I take my last breath. I do think being a nurse has forced me to contemplate life and death and a lot of people go to great lengths to never consider it. I can totally understand when someone says they are looking forward to Going Home.

We moved the Freedom Mutt and her 17 chicks to a brooder box at the top of the main coop. We think if we confine her there for a few days she might agree to keep them inside at night.

Over in the Delaware coop, Foster Broody and the 10 Delaware chicks have snubbed the special night box we put in there for them in favor of the Delawares' nesting box.

WBF- We just bought a huge stock trailer. I showed my hubby the picture and I think he is out searching for the paint can!!!!!Lol . It came with the Highlander's we just bought. Can't wait to get sheep. No excuses now that we have the trailer to haul them in.

She's done. So far so good. Moving her to her room/recovery now. I just kept alternating prayers with whispers : "Don't let go of my hand, Linda!" Next 48 hours are going to be her most risky. Dialysis today before surgery, again tomorrow morning, then Sunday if her fluids are still out of balance. Lungs are very bad so ventilator for quite awhile yet - maybe even until Sunday morning.

So proud to say that the family took up a waiting room and half another one! I am so blessed.

So I caught this opposum and I'm like I think I'll try to train it. I've been thinking about trying that for a while now. So I did. I named him Bob. Well today Bob had babies.

Just left the hospital about half hour ago. She is nodding yes or shaking her head (gingerly) in response to questions and when we left she waved her IV covered hand "goodbye." They are still very concerned about fluid, so they are doing a dialysis tomorrow and then probably on Sunday. They have to find a fine balance because her heart needs fluid in order to pump, but not so much that she begins drowning in her own fluids again and building toxins. It will take them longer to remove the ventilator because without any kidneys she can't filter out the anesthesia that well. Dialysis will help a little bit with that, but not enough.

Katie and Evan had a bit of an 'accident' doing chicken chores tonight. Seems 5 of them escaped. Wish I'd have had a video of my daughter Tam, who detests all things outdoors, chasing chickens! They got them rounded up, then the kids got a refresher course in tossing scratch far from the people door so the chickens are distracted away from the chore activities.

Unrelenting rain has kept me in the house after work for a week. Only going out to let the chooks out of the run to range for an hour or two and gather eggs. Well not being seen for the week must of given the aerial predators the go ahead to start nesting in prime hunting ground.

I know you probably can't pick it out but its there (excuse my garage in perpetual state of rebuild)

How about now. Pair of red tail hawks home build project going on. I've been going out every night while the chooks are on the loose. Hope I can put end to the unwanted building project.
