The Front Porch Swing

Pictures, I need PICTURES! Not for non-professional advice giving, but because I LOVE old architecture and wood. You can keep the steel and glass buildings.

Just for you Bruce!

I need to get pictures of the two sets of double doors leading off the dining and living rooms.

So the vet thought my sick hen was suffering from "ascites" and would not last the night. She gave her a shot of morphine and I took her home to die.

But she didn't die, and seemed perky and hungry this morning, digging into scrambled eggs and watermelon.

I read on an Internet site of people who relieved their chicken's abdominal distension by aspirating the fluid with a needle. I asked my vet to do it but she said there was no point since she suspected heart or liver failure.

So hubby and I did it tonight. Didn't want to take out too much, cause imbalance issues. I just want some input. Good idea? Bad idea? Has anyone ever successfully treated a hen with this condition?

I can't remember which it is but it seems like ascites is caused by excess protein or salt. Protein I think. I'm not sure, might be other causes too. Those birds are really hot inside when they have ascites. I guess that might be a fever. Wish I knew what to tell you to do. I've seen it quite a bit in CX meat birds so I'm thinking it is excess protein. Good luck with your hen.

Hey guys! :frow

So I caught this opposum and I'm like I think I'll try to train it. I've been thinking about trying that for a while now. So I did. I named him Bob. Well today Bob had babies.

Don't let Bobbie (lol) bite you! Baby possums are so cute. Got any pics? You ate a coon yet???

Too much salt in the feed or water or too much protein in the feed are two possible causes.

Ok oh my gosh. That's just the craziest thing I ever heard...not sure which is crazier, you wanting to train a coon, or bob having babies amidst training.

Well I just had to copy those photos you posted of your house, I miss my fireplace and woodwork here is most nonexistent. If I get that house I will fix that, one reason why I wanted an older place they have character. Prayers to those that need them as well. Lost one of my baby NNs today have no clue why. Photographs taken for later posting. Got fresh sand for their pens today and part two of meds the vet gave me. My youngest chicks are 1 month today. My one Buff chicken on the roof crowed today and I finally got it filmed! Started a word file on my babies to document progress. Hoping I can go see the house again.

Unrelenting rain has kept me in the house after work for a week. Only going out to let the chooks out of the run to range for an hour or two and gather eggs. Well not being seen for the week must of given the aerial predators the go ahead to start nesting in prime hunting ground.

The hawks here are getting very courageous too.. I normally let my chicks out into their run daily mostly all day, when they spot a hawk they run back into the coop but well, yesterday two hawks decide to follow them and wait just right outside their little door. Had to lock them up after that. I guess I'll be putting a cover on their run.
