The Front Porch Swing

I love this post!!! I have spent the last several years adding gratitude to my worship life and it just seems to seed a field of joy and peace in my heart...it's like walking on sunshine all day long. And then I found a verse that explained why that is so and it just made me want to thank Him even more!

Philippians 4:6-7

6 Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; 7 and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

I'm hoping your interview is a success and you will be working where the Lord leads you.

I loved his music!  When I was little he was one of my favorite singers.

I am not young or little and he is still one of my favorite singers. The best songs are ballads. I love it when a song tells a story or actually has meaning to it.

Country music used to be good. But now it is drinking, trucks, women........ not my cup of tea

I see you like to fish! Wow I need a fishing buddy :)

I saw John Denver in concert - best concert I saw.

Yes I can believe that. I once saw Joni Mitchell in concert. My friend once got Bruce Springsteen to autograph her t-shirt. Ooooo I also got to see Eric Clapton and Robert Cray in concert. I always assume you Americans have way more opportunities than us. And another friend said she saw Jackson Brown shaking "Mr Happy" off the deck of his trailer after a show. Just peeing I assume. Ha!

I've missed everything. I did, however, get most of my garden planted, shared some pots with my daughter, moved every peep-n-quacker out of the house and took DH to the hospital yesterday for appendicitis. He's home now and sleeping continually, which is good. Hope all is well on the porch! I will most likely be sporadic this summer - no way can I keep up with you guys. Last I read was page 548 and here we are in the 700s....Be well and say something nice to a stranger next chance you get.

SOMEONE has to work while the rest of us cool our heels on the porch!

But, my son has bought me a 10 year old FEMA trailer that I can park on my Mom's property until I can buy a piece of property to call home!

My son says he is going to send me pics. Did I say I am excited???????
Sounds like a great opportunity. Just a small worry - I assume the FEMA trailer was tested for formaldehyde. There were a bunch of them making people sick after Katrina. It is one of the things used to make plywood.

Just so I am clear on this, you are somewhat looking forward to this move, right?

Linda didn't even look up. In a dry, yeah-whatever voice she retorted, “If you don’t get a job and keep it pretty darn soon I’m just gonna throw your a** on the barbecue grill and dump whatever's left of you in Covell Lake.” Russ got a job at the newspaper in the maintenance department and has been there ever since. And I'm also happy to report that the barbecue grill is no longer hanging over his head.

Blooie, that is so funny. I love it. Linda was patient for a long time, then straight to the heart! No pussy footing around. Get it in gear or get it in the rear. Next time you talk to her, tell her she makes your friends on the porch swing laugh.

That's the sad thing about trying to lose weight. Wicked migraines ( I don't have thank goodness) I try to keep it under control but wicked sweetener or wicked sugar.

My wife was saying she was down a decade as she started to lose weight. My older daughter (OCD about many things) wasn't having any of it, decades are time, not weight. So today my wife said "I have a new middle number". That means 40 pounds since she started working at the P.O. last November. (shhh, don't tell her I put this personal info out on the porch).

So, OK, I can't actually guarantee it works for everyone but the not sitting around the house and going for walks at lunch have really gotten her metabolism in gear.

I think the Old Fields area is beautiful, just up the road from wal~mart.

But where I would love to be is some around the base of the mountain below Wolfe Gap. Real near the VA line. I do not think commercialism will be there any time soon. I am not a person who has to run to 7-11 twice a day. I know how to shop once a month :) A goat or two for milk, chickens for eggs and meat stops a lot of trips to the store.

Take me home country roads :)

I was picturing a vacation we took when I was a child to the skyline drive and the clouds were seeping through the trees. John Denver had it just right

I like to catch fish...and I can even tolerate just dozing in the sun on a river bank...but I hate to fish where every cast nets a snag. That happened just a couple of weekends ago down near my home here....bad place to fish, lost three lures and didn't get a single bite.

Will be going trout fishing up at Blackwater at the end of the month and hope to kick all the boy's butts with the Trout Magnet lures.

You and I will have to have a girls weekend and go fishing!

I agree on the country music...it stopped being good in the early 80s. I love the ballads too, so John Denver, James Taylor and Jim Croce were my three faves all my formative years...I guess you could say they still are.
