The Front Porch Swing

Hey there,

I'm new and only joining, posting because the following post came up while I was searching for info on clockboards. Having a hard time finding what I'm looking for except for the person who posted the drawing and mentioned not having a clockboard. I used to use one when I was illustrating for a living. I'm kind of shocked I'm not finding anything.

If there's mandatory, obligatory chicken content…

We've got 16 new(ish) chickens in the backyard as of last month. A mountain lion ate all 13 of the laying hens we used to have back there about 2 or 3 months ago. :(

You might consider adding some ventilation holes along that top ridge and perhaps some on the shelf level as well.  Nesting boxes get really hot.  I use to have one similar to this in that it was a tunnel nest but I didn't have anything fancy like your pull out drawer.  Until I added ventilation, my birds wouldn't use it.

O Blooie!!! I am so happy you are back!! Loved it.

Lisa :)
Thank you, Miss Lisa. I found out a few years later that the "ol' Milk Duds for deer (or elk) poop trick" is a prank from forever ago. I'd darn sure never heard of it before it happened to Cathy and me. Lloyd's gone now, and so's my dad. But this memory is one of my favorites.....and a lot of the lessons I learned that trip are still with me every time I haul my hunting gear out to the truck.

Ok guys, I've got mites. So, here's the plan-I just found them today.
I have already dusted with sevin (5% dust) the chicken that I found them on. How do you get the whole chicken covered?

Tomorrow after school I will dust the others as best as I can- how do you get the dust all over a chicken who doesn't want to be dusted? Do you put them in a Rubbermaid tub or something so they can't escape?

I will get the coop totally cleaned out and spray with bleach, dust with sevin, and perhaps some DE.

I'll dust the shavings, leaves etc that I put back in the coop.

The chicken I found the mites on is doing this head shaking weird noise thing. Almost sounds like she has a cold.

What am I missing?

Sometimes mites proliferate on a hen that is already weakened with some other sickness. When I dust I just do the vent, tummy and under the wings. Need to redo it in a week.

Ok I'm hoping I can take care if this. I'm swamped with end of year school stuff and don't have time for this!!! Another chicken is making that weird noise and shaking her head thing too. I got a video of it but don't think I can upload a video from my phone

A beekeeper keeps about twenty hives in one of our fields and I think he's back there right now taking their winter covering off. I'll go back and offer to be useful after my tea is done, and with any luck, he'll be finished. Ha!

Twenty Hives! I will be doing good if I get my 1 ready!! Then I have to wait and see if I can get a swarm. The lady that is going to help me get one, says she needs 5-6 herself. So I hope I can get in on that too! I almost have mine ready. About a couple hours more work and it should be done. Some one gave me most of a hive and I bought 2 medium supers. Had to clean the old one and put the wax foundation in. Never done it before, so it took me a while to research youtube videos and then start. Did you go help your beekeeper? Or was your tea to hot, or cold, which ever you like it, so you had to wait till it got just right?!!

I don't know a thing about clockboards so I guess I'm rather useless. But I do want to welcome you to the Porch! Sit down - anywhere will do (except the bucket with the turtle under it....hey, is that turtle still alive under there?). We have porch swings, overturned buckets, steps, and the porch rail, although the rail might be hazardous to your, um, pride. We have baked goods, tea - sweetened, unsweetened, iced or hot - sodas and lots of smiles. And nope, no obligatory chicken content. If that were the case I'd have been thrown off the porch ages ago. So tell us a little about yourself.....inquiring minds....

I've been known to pick a little guitar myself! I have a nice 6 string and a much loved Fender 12 string. And 5 string banjo. And mandolin. And cello, but don't ask about that!

The clock board comment would be me... VBG The last time I used one was in College back in the 70s. What do you need to know?

Here are a series of pix of clock board drawings. They are also called perspective drawing boards

You can Do the same with a good sized drafting board and some adhesive backed pins or dowels....
