The Front Porch Swing

I am reminded as I read the posts over the last few days how blessed I am. Enola, Blooie, oldmamma, and everyone else who is having difficult times right now I am/have asked God to help and guide you. I know you are all strong women who aren't looking for pity, but you do all have my empathy. I have had my share of difficult times. In fact I am just coming off from 18 months of one blow after another involving my mom and my kids. All is good now, and looking back I realize I am stronger than I thought I was. That is saying a lot because I have always considered myself a tough women. Family, friends, and mostly God got me through everything.
Ok let's lighten things up a little. This is my first time raising chickens. I hatched 9 of the 13 eggs I put in the incubator. One of the 9 had to be culled.

but still think it was pretty good for my first time and with a home made incubator. they hatched on April 14th. They are still in my basement because my resident carpenter and handyman is still building the coop. He does WONDERFUL work but is a little slow, mostly because he is a perfectionist.

This is Duane. Pretty sure he is a she. My son named her/him and claimed him for his own chicken LOL. It is rather funny to watch this 19 year old guy get all attached to "his" chicken.

This is Enchillada (the brown one) and Omelette. While the eggs where hatching my other son the tech geek hooked up a live video feed on line. My daughters science class ( she teaches 5th grade) was able to watch the eggs hatch and they got to name some of the chickens. The class had a lot of fun doing the chicken dance to help encourage Omelette out of his shell. Duane, Omelette, and Enchillada are helping me weed my raspberries. The eggs are from a farmer and he said that he had mostly austrolops but I can't remember what the other types of chickens he had were. I don't know what type the brown chicken is and I notice Duane has feathers on his/her legs. Does any one have any guesses????

This is the coop in progress. This was taken on Sunday. Spring is VERY late in Wisconsin this year. Finally was able to put some seeds in the ground last week end. Jen

I read this and had to blink twice and check to make sure it wasn't me that posted it! I have the SAME thing happening here! My chicks hatched the 20th and are also still in the house. I wanted a simple grow out/broody coop. Something pieced together with scrap and pallet wood. I ended up with this:

It is solid and way more fancy than I had in mind! I can stand up in it! Just some batten to finish, painting the floor, and putting the ridge cap on. Friday should be moving day!!

Congrats on the successful hatch! I hope you get to move yours out soon!!
