The Front Porch Swing

No like all spiders they inject to eat. The Fangs inject a chemical that completely turns its prey into liquid.... then they drink to eat.

here are some facts http://insects.about.com/od/spiders/a/10-facts-about-tarantulas.htm

Gotta tell you, deb, nothing about that site makes me want to touch a spider. A 10" tarantulas? Shiver.

Can't ride because of a hip injury in an accident last year, No place close enough to walk to. We are 10 miles from the closest store. Haven't tried board games but I can hear it now. I'm Bored. ha ha
Hope the pup keeps her occupied. Doug and I had to be gone for my eye appointment most of the day today so all she did was sleep. Tomorrow we are scrubbing carpet from last weekends!company. I'll keep trying/
There are a couple of card games that are really fun...skipbo and uno. You could teach her how to play spades, solitare, umm I know there are others, but I can't think of any more. oh yea, War! You can order Skipbo online at Amazon...it is a really fun game!

Uno is fun! We like Scrabble or Upwords or the newest thing we got for the step-son Quirkle. He loves Quirkle

Oooh and yahtzee. Or good old favorite Monopoly. Man, I'm going to have to play some games tomorrow.

Step-son has had an extended stay at his mom's since saturday, picking him up in the morning. I've missed that booger darnit.

Got these pictures on Facebook yesterday, then the tarantula discussion showed up here. Thought I'd post these so you can meet Evan's friend, Lily. Evan's other grandparents work at the Sertoma Butterfly House in Sioux Falls, and he goes there with them a lot. Lily lives there as well, in the business office, obviously not in the sanctuary. The first year, he was afraid of the butterflies.....look at him now!

Tam saw these pictures and about came unglued! "So THIS is how they take care of him when he goes back for the summer?" I just patted her arm and reminded her that Grampa Skyberg wasn't going to do anything to put Evan in danger. Yes, Lily is venomous, but she's so mellow she doesn't even care to bite.

My step-son's birthday is April 17th, Amelia's April 21st. I figured with birthdays so close together it would make for one BIG birthday. Rent a bouncy castle kind of thing. Thomas loves bouncy castles... and has not a clue what a birthday is (his is in January). I'm sure once they're older they want their own thing. Ofcourse, my step-son gets a party at his mom's house too, so it wouldn't be that big a deal.

My birthday is August 30th, DH is August 27th. I always told him we should get married inbetween and call it celebration week. Nice and easy once the kids are grown, only have to get off one week a year to celebrate everything

(DH lost his first child on August 26th. Born at 20 weeks)

Nice - we used to have "Christmas #2" in June - My birthday was June 19, my brother the 30, Father's day was right around there, school got out, so we just brought my mom into the mix. It was perfect, and far from Christmas so we didn't have to do birthday silliness so many times a year. We just took a camping trip and got marshmallows and slept in a tent... that was our celebration. If there was anything that we needed the rest of the year (new hockey skates, or something), it was always a late or early birthday present. In that way, we didn't get stupid stuff we didn't need!

In our family we have:
Tam's, Dec 5;
mine, Dec 29;
Terrin's Jan 4;
Kenny's Jan 9 and
Ken's Jan 10th

It was a stretch to celebrate each of the kid's special day during the chaos of the season, and I get into birthdays big time. So one year when Ken was out at sea over the holidays I devised what I still think was an ingenious solution. Every New Year's Eve we had ginger ale, chips and dips, and chislic. Right after the midnight, I gave the kids our new calendar and let them pick out their "birthdays" for that year. The only rules were that it couldn't be on another holiday (no Easter or 4th of July, etc) and two kids couldn't chose the same month. They picked in order from youngest to oldest. When I started this Kenny was 5, Terrin was 7 and Tam was 9. They caught on in no time, and we continued this tradition until they started leaving home.

Eggcellent.... When handled often they are pretty cool. Lots of people keep them as pets. I wouldnt... and i wouldnt care to handle one but I would get up close and look them over because I find them interesting.

My favorite spiders are Jumping spiders.... They are just so freaking cute.

some are even vegitarians.... LOL.

Blooie, so sorry to hear about Kendra, your family is in my prayers. And go on your cruise, enjoy yourself and the company of Tam. If I recall correctly, this cruise is something that Tam needed to relax and de-stress. It will probably do you well also. Kendra has a terrific support system in your whole family and it sounds like some caring and skilled doctors on her side. It will do Kendra no good if you burn yourself out - so take care of you.

You have so much going on that keeps you busy around the place, that she can help you. Keeping house, animals, etc. are skills worth learning. I homeschooled my two and they did everything with me. They learned to cook, sew, work on cars, fix up the house (painting, drywalling, etc.). Granted my daughter is not the best on keeping her car running

........but she can change a tire.

If I told this story before, just ignore this. I knew a man who had two teenage sons. They lived in town. These boys were sneaking out at night and getting into trouble. The father bought land in the country. Just land, no house--NOTHING. The boys' job was to build a road to the middle of the property so they could build a house. Guess who was too tired at night to sneak out? Boys turned out just fine.

That is so cool. I love it. Evan is a cute little guy! (We saw ours again last night. He has moved to the barn)

One of my friends is terrified of bugs. She projected her fear onto her son at an early age. If that boy saw any bug, he would scream his head off. I often think about him and wonder how he is doing. At a young age he looked like he could be a football player. I have a picture in my head of a football player on the field screaming his head off because he sees a bug.
