The Front Porch Swing

I had a similar mishap with peppermint schnapps when I was 15, involving me regurgitating a pizza on our living room chair which had been reupholstered a week earlier. I think the reason I was never caught, was the distraction of the note my parents came home to in the evening saying "Osmo is sleeping in the toilet, with the door locked." I did get most of the stains out of that chair, and flipped the cushion over.

Have you had another occasion to partake of Peppermint Schnapps? If you and your wife get a chance to hop the pond, I have a spare room and would be thrilled to have y'all! (that's Alabam-ese for "you are welcome here!")
Perhaps she'll be the wife by then, going on ten years now, but we are still living in sin.

I don't like it, although that might just be because, well, it's peppermint schnapps. I think it was created to make little girls drunk. It does go nicely in a hot cocoa though when you're skiing.

Alabama would be interesting to see, depends on what kind of trip we'll make when we get the chance. Originally the plan was to fly to San Francisco and explore Napa and Yosemite, and other parts of California for a couple of weeks in a rental car. But the east coast would have a lot to offer as well, so maybe we're going to have to make it a two month trip and try to make a giant circle around the country, visiting every chicken coop in the USA.

*Edit* That actually opens up an interesting idea, just flying to the States and renting a car, and then spend the whole trip driving around mooching of BYC:ers and taking advantage of their hospitality for our own personal gain.

My beloved and I lived together for about 10 years before we finally got married. I referred to him as my beloved because boyfriend at our age just sounded silly. The only reason we wound up getting married was because we were about to go on a motorcycle ride and I had just changed jobs and my insurance would not kick in for 3 months. If we got married his would cover me immediately. :) That was 6 years ago.

I love the idea of renting a car and doing a BYC tour. I've done something similar via Motorcycle here in the states. For several years I moderated a very active motorcycle forum and have made great friends around the world from it. Actually did a 17 day fly and ride in Europe with folks from that forum. But definitely have done a trip or two staying with folks as I traveled the US.

My beloved and I will cover your Dallas stop if you make one! Come on over, the weather is fine! :)

I have been to Canada, Italy, Germany, Switzerland, Liechtenstein and Austria. I find the people and their customs in other countries very interesting.

I am sure you could have a real adventure hob nobbing around the US visiting one BYC'r after another!

Sometimes I dream about what I will do after I retire........ My dream revolves around loading my horse on my trailer and traveling around the country. There are a lot of places that can be enjoyed on horseback.

I have visited every state on the east coast, but the farthest west I have been is the western part of Georgia. That leaves a lot of area for me to cover with my horse!

Sounds like fun! I would buy a tent and sleeping bags once you got here, it would be easier to get people to let you "camp" in their yard (away from the coops for biosecurity reasons) and just mooch a shower. If they offered, you could take advantage of their hospitality, bed, meal, etc., but wouldn't have to have one for every stop. Plan the time of year carefully so as to miss the extremes (HOT, humid, mosquitoes, tornadoes, COLD, snow, etc.) I would love to do this myself!

We have Motel 5 1/2 and we'll keep the light on for ya! When folks visit us, we set up our popup camper in the yard. So far nobody has objected. We hate to have folks come for a visit and then have them stay in a motel - kinda defeats the purpose of getting together - but we have no gues room in this tiny old trailer. So we set up the camper like a guest room and have so much fun! I'm on the trail to Yellowstone (or from Yellowstone, depending on your itinerary) and would love to put any of you up!! I missed Luvs but that was a case of just not hooking up. She was looking for Cowley along the highway, I was waiting for her to call for directions when she got to the junction so I didn't get to tell her she had to turn right and go 6 miles. When she finally called they were near Billings already. Doggone it!

Come to San Diego as well.... You can see the San Diego Zoo Pop into Mexico for a few hours. Best to drop the rental car off in a parking lot in the US (Rental cars cant be taken into Mexico anyway)walk across the border and take a cab on the other side..... TIjuana has some good places to visit... Though I havent been in about thirty years....

The Mass Transit system sucks here in the US. The Pacific coast has a train system that can take you from Washington STate all the way to San Diego.... In San Diego there is a trolly system that will take you from the train to Mexico to up to Santee where I live with my Granmother. No spare room though.... but I could take you up to my place which is sixty miles east and show you my little patch of paradise. If I am living there by then you are more than welcome to stay a day or two.

The Rent a car companies will come and pick you up at the train depots.

The farthest east I have ever been is Florida. The farthest north west I have been is San Francisco. In California, I have lived in San Bernardino, Colton, and San Diego. I have lived in Las Vegas Nevada and Roswell New Mexico as well. So if you are interested in those places I can give you some good spots to visit...

Yousomite is excellent, there is also Bodie California and the drive from Fallon Nevada to Ely Nevada is pretty spactacular. But not the best use of a rental car.... Highway 50 is called the lonliest highway in the world.

But it crosses the middle of the US from California to The Atlantic finally through Washington DC and Delaware. Its a trip I would love to take with a Motor home and about a year of side trips. http://www.roadtripusa.com/routes/loneliestroad/loneliestroad.html

You could come visit Katee and me. There are a Bizillian places to ride around my place and lots of BLM land as well as a National forest and California Park land. We have good hay year round... Years ago I had some friends that retired from their 9 to 5 jobs and moved to some land on the fringe of BLM and National park land. They opened up a Bed and Breakfast for people who were vacationing on horseback. Separate private stalls and corrals.... horsie biosecurity.... and cabins or spots to park your Horse Rig.

For those who dont know they make horse trailers that are half horse stalls and half motor home. Some are nice enough to live in year round.

I would love to have one of those that has a compartment for Katees off road Carriage.

You know I have been considering getting a Motel 5 1/2 myself. I have full hook up capabilities too. For me to live in while I remodel my house... Hmmm....
The possibilities are endless...

I'd love to have a pop up. Hubby says his tenting days are over.

Me, I actually sleep better in a tent, and consider our queen sized air mattress to be far superior to my own bed. That would be awesome to be able to put up guests. I can only imagine how nice it would be to have a house big enough for a SPARE bedroom.

We ran into a couple from the Netherlands last month on our road trip who did just that-- flew to the US and rented a car and basically road trip/camped across the nation. They started in NYC. I'm not sure where their stops were before we ran into them at Black Canyon of the Gunnison in Colorado, but they still had two weeks before they had to be in San Francisco. We keep track of the people we meet and will mention them in our trip journal once it is done.

I just rode a horse in Rocky Mountain National Park. It was pretty cool. Beautiful sights and the chance to see wildlife that we don't have over here in the East. Only thing that would have made it better would have been if it were my horse and my saddle I was sitting in… I am sure Valentine is grateful that it was the other way though! 5,000 miles hopping from campground to campground would not have been fun for him!!

I love this. We do the same thing, except we now have a travel trailer. It works the other way around, too. Sometimes we just haul it to wherever we are visiting and we have our own home on wheels! It is especially handy when I still have to work and we go up to FIL's for Thanksgiving. I can set up my computer and the dog and I can hide out for a while. It helps to have our own space to retire to when a big family is involved.

You know I have been considering getting a Motel 5 1/2 myself. I have full hook up capabilities too. For me to live in while I remodel my house... Hmmm....

There was a time… and actually this may still stand… that our camper was as nice or way nicer than our house. We started out together 11 years ago in a super small one bedroom mobile home. Our camper now lacks about 5 feet from having the same sq footage as that mobile home. We could easily live in it and I wouldn't mind it a bit. It honestly is a bit appealing… give up all this extra "junk"...

I'd love to have a pop up. Hubby says his tenting days are over.

Pop-up, best of both worlds! We used to tent camp a lot. Then we got a pop-up. No toilet or shower. Canvas walls and zip windows… just like a tent. BUT a nice bed to sleep on. Perfect. Well… we had plans of lots of travel and the thought of sleeping with bears in MT got to be a bit concerning… so we upgraded to a travel trailer. Ours is not huge, but it is PERFECT for us in every way. Plenty of room for us and both boys. We do miss the simplicity of the tent or pop-up though.
