The Front Porch Swing

My sister works for the local hospital and helps set the folks up with the "I've Fallen And Can't Get Up" devices. Home visits, interviews, and check-ins. She loves that job! She has had patients call her up to thank her for getting the device set-up and working because it saved them "the other day". No shame in having that little bit of protection handy!

I am sick and tired of being sick and tired.... LOL. Had a cousin and his family drop in last weekend... they are doing Medifast... Both he and his wife have dropped at least forty pounds each... but DANG. They eat bars, and smoothies, and more bars... oh and they get one fresh food meal per day... 4 oz protien and a salad....

sigh. Outside a bypass that journey is going to take me at least four years.

I'm sorry you are having issues Deb! That diet sounds like the pre-op diet. Even if you haven't been approved for the bypass.... losing just 30 lbs made a huge difference for me in how I felt. Maybe give it a shot and see if it gives you a boost in energy and pain relief?

DH has finally found a job he wants: law enforcement. He's gonna have really work for that one. He's 300+ lbs.. strong, but not enough stamina to run the 1 1/2 miles. And you have to climb a 6 ft fence or wall! But, if it's a motivator to get in shape, I'm all for it. 40 hours even as correctional officer pays more than his current 50+ hours as general manager.. and that's starting pay! And benefits, something he doesn't get now.

That is great! If it is a motivation to get in shape so much the better. My son in law just took the physical and the written test and passed both but he said neither of them were easy and he did not score as high as he wanted on the written exam. I don't think I could pass either. Best of luck to him! Make sure he looks for practice exams for the written if it is anything like it is in Texas.

I'm worried though, he's turning 34 next week.. I don't believe they have an age limit here, but a lot of places do draw the line at 35. It stresses me out a bit, thinking he may not get in shape in time.

I am tempted but I tried Jenny craig and couldnt bear the food after a week. plus I cant afford it no amount of squeeking and skrimping can make it affordable. Both Jenny Craig and Medi Fast require that you sign up for the year and buy thier foods.

If I committ to a program it will be back to Weight Watchers. I have had Success with it in the past...

I had a lot of success just journaling my calorie count for a few weeks and tweaking it. 1800 cal a day was my magic number, I lost weight really well at that point.

sites like sparkpeople help with figuring out how much you burn. No cost.

eventually you get the hang of it and you wont have to look up all foods, most folks tend to eat the same foods every week. For a math minded person, it's almost fun. It's like balancing a calorie check book

I agree TTM! I use my fitness pal for tracking. It keeps me honest!

How long ago were you on Weight Watchers? I really like their program, but I dropped it when we went to 2 mortgages. My neighbor has just lost 12 pounds with weight watchers, she has lost 2-3 pounds each week. The on-line program is affordable, but you need to have the self control to stay on program by yourself. The meetings are such a big help with that. And they have a recipe builder on-line that allows you to put in your own recipes and tweak them to reduce the points to fit the program better. I really like that I get to learn how to cook my meals in a healthy way and will be able to eat that way for the rest of my life. I will probably go back on Weight Watchers next spring.

Its my own d.a.mn.e.d. fault. Too heavy too lazy... lettin pain get in the way. I never did that before.

I am giving myself another year to get going again. First step is spending one night a week up at my house puttering and generally getting away from family. I even bought linens last week to spend the night but mom had a melt down because her dogs toenails needed trimming and I NEEDED TO TAKE her to the vet now. I asked her when the appointment was. She hung up to make the appointment call and I never heard from her. They were closed on Saturday... I lost my impetus.

Moms a Drama Queen... Grandma I cant trust home alone for too long. Dean can handle it for 24 hours than goodness... but I need to be out of cell phone contact....

sorry for the melt down. I appreciate you all letting me rant. That helps just as much as physical help.

deb

Hon, you have come to the right place for a melt down. We all have them. It's just your turn now. Blooies was yesterday. Or whenever it happened. Right Blooie? Aimee and gson AJ have gone to Dallas for 3-4 days. Clint has to work in the daytime so I'll be manning the fort on days. Just have to let the house dogs out and feed them. Then I have time to fool with my chickens. I got the gimpy rooster put up today and will cull him tomorrow. Everybody will be gone and I'll have time to process him. I want to practice my caponizing on him to get a feel of what I'm doing. Watching videos and looking at pics and info is not the same. We'll see.
