The Front Porch Swing

Kenny says the first time a young man comes to pick Katie or Kendra for a date (and he says they WILL pick them up, at the door) he's going to stick out his hand, say, "Hi, my name is Kenny and I've got no problem going back to prison!" The boys will be like

I greeted all of my daughter's dates with a somewhat more gentle method. That is until she brought 'the one'. Her request was that he was 'different from the others', and I should not embarrass him. I behaved - they were married 20 years ago and have a good marriage. Guess she knew what she was doing after all.

Hi gang. I hope everyone is enjoying their Labor Day. I have a small request, could you grab one of those 29 chickens that are surrounding the porch? Thanks. While enjoying our bbq ribs, sweet corn and baked taters we had a chicken jailbreak. Someone (hubs) didn't latch the run door when the storm blew in.

Once the rain subsided, DH glanced out the window and said, nonchalantly, "there's a chicken on the roof".
I looked out and sure enough, Miss Sassafrass, the BBR OEGB is on the top of the coop. (which means she can fly really high)

Funny, I had just mentioned wanting to start free ranging them during the day. Apparently, the chickens agree.

Dog tried to go after a couple so there is that, but the best news-Mica,the Stone Cold Killer barn cat, who killed a rooster loses her title, she TOTALLY ignored the birds as they ran around with us rounding them up.

Bwhahahahaha I can imagine it. I bought one of those fishing nets. Bright blue metal and a scoop that will land a 70 lb marlin. When I catch them they stay caught. But they run like he// from the net.

Edited for question. I have 12 cockerels, 6 are almost 10 weeks old and 3 of them have started crowing at 8 weeks. By the time they are big enough to process will they be totally tough? Maybe 16 wks?

Catching them was so much easier than I thought. I need to get a net for when it's just me chasing 'em.

We surrounded them (all 4 of us) and closed the escape route and gave them a tunnel back to the run door and they marched right in (with a leaf rake following close behind) and settled down. It was a chicken Parade!
