I can see both sides of that coin. I know a woman who's husband bought her a pair of hip waders for her birthday. He was big into hunting and fishing, her, not so much. I think the spirit in which the gift was given is the important thing. Let me guess, the ad was about jewelry, right? Since when, should a commercial determine what is and what is not an appropriate gift? For the woman who took offense at the gift of a refrigerator and stove, those gifts wouldn't have been appropriate for her. (She is probably the type of woman who loves jewelry.) But, for the woman who has a so-so kitchen, and loves to cook and entertain, a new stove and fridge would gain lots of bonus points for her hubby. Who knows what he may choose to redeem those for at a future date!!!
