The Front Porch Swing

Being here is like having tea on a real porch - didja ever visit with friends and stay on one topic the entire time, then say, "Time's up for this subject. Next?" Nope - ya just sorta flit around!

Lol! Well I was thinking about getting some official barn cats to get rid of my rat problem. I have two cats that hang out but they're snot mine and don't stay. There's a rat in my coop that keeps getting my momma birds babies. :(

Anyone else have good ways to solve a rodent problem?

If you don't mind drowning them, make a rat trap. Take a big garbage can, fill partway (less than 1/2 full) with water and sprinkle sunflower seeds on top. Leave the top off and the rats will jump in to get the food and drown.

I'll get rid of them however I can! So far they've avoided my live trap and the spring trap I set. :(

I know I was just being silly...

If you try the garbage can trap, let me know if it works. We use a bucket with peanut butter on a can suspended over anti-freeze for mice and it works great, the sunflower seeds for rats is something I read on BYC. Make sure to use enough seeds to completely cover the water surface.

And what others said - the porch is where you talk about anything at all! PERFECT place to ask such a question.

She didn't go for the trash can but the sunflower seeds in the live trap were tempting enough!
