the garden ark chicken coop

I could be wrong but I think that the plans for the ark are relatively new so there may not be very many that have been built....Let us know how it goes if you get one built!

I live only a few miles away from the guy who developed this coop and saw it on the Portland Coop Tour last year. I was very impressed with both the ark and the large coop. The construction seemed pretty straight forward and it was definitely a solid coop. His website has several pics and tips from various people who have built both coops.

We recently finished a Garden Coop for our Banty Cochins and I love it! We have six chickens in it and they all seem to have enough room. The person that came up with the plans is very helpful and actually called me to answer a question I emailed him about. That's customer service!
I don't know how to post photos yet as I am a long time lurker but first time poster. If you want to email me privately I can send you some.

So, I would highly recommend the Garden coop. It's attractive, very functional and fairly easy to build.

I bought the plans also but haven't started building it yet. Trying to gather all the information from the blogs first but there isn't a lot on the ark plan. I wanted it because it is mobile and I am within city limits and don't have as much room as I would like. I am thinking about adding the exterior nesting box for more room. Have you found any more information on anyone who has built this? The web site is extremely helpful with questions and has responded quickly.

I built it and added a removable door in the front and wheels that allow it to be raised. Also large handles on the sides - back could also use them to help maneuver. My brother did the wheels for me so I can't give you advice on that, otherwise, I pretty much followed the plan. The directions were very good and I didn't have any problem following them. I like it but it isn't easy to move around and I consider myself a strong woman. However, I do it by myself and my brother also made me a hitch for the garden tractor as our lawn is hilly. Oh, I added a nesting box in the back. It is ideal for small chickens or a couple of regular chickens. It has worked well for me and I used basically the same plan to build a run for them leaving out the enclosure. Hope this helps. Pics attached.

I made mine into a non-tractor. Buried it into the ground somewhat and added a door at the front to let them free range. My next mod is to add an automatic external door to replace the one I made.

It is heavy, but it is very very strong.

I added a two place nesting box on the side, and an auto-feeder and waterer. I leave the pop door open also.

It has plenty of ventilation.

If I may ask, how much did it run you to build it? I've just bought the plans and am pricing out materials. Some of it (like the nails and such) my husband likely has, but I am a bit dismayed at my final figure of about $360. So I am wondering how much others have spent. Thanks!
