The Garden is planted!

I overheard someone talking about planting tomato starts on their side, so the sun hits both the vegetative part and the soil directly above the root ball. He said he can put them in the ground weeks earlier this way, because the whole plant warms up quicker in the morning. Anyone tried this?
 
My garden is always planted. The only things I grow are weeds and crab grass.

I'll stick to the farmer's market for fresh veggies. Much less work.

That map is correct for the PNW all year! Maybe bar the 6-8 weeks of summer in the 70's, with that week of blasted heat where day temps may hit 90 and heat advisories are out galore.
