You guys get tons of eggs.

I sometimes get 1 egg a day out of five hens. Sometimes I get none, other times I get two. I mean, yeash, they are 22 weeks old, what do they think they are doing? (or not doing?!) They ought to be egg laying machines by now!

***Just want you to know, I do know that it is normal for them to begin laying around 20-24 weeks. I am just being sarcastic.

I get about a dozen eggs a day, sometimes more, sometimes less.

I get from 4 to 6 a day. I have 6 hens.

They don't lay as well in the winter, I heard, because there is less light going in their eyes or something. I put in a lamp, with a light blub (I use a certain kind to avoid pecking, but any kind does work) and a timer. It goes on at 4:00am and off at 7:00am, and then I let them outside into their run. If I can figure out how, I hope to make it go on also from 5:00pm-7:00pm for them to get the right amount of light they need. I think they need 14-15 hours of light a day. Someone who knows what they are talking about can probably say what I am attempting to say in 2-3 sentences.

We have a bulb that goes on early in the morning then shuts off a little later. Then in the afternoon when it starts to get dark, we turn it on, and then turn it off a while later. We get a good 4 or 5 eggs a day (One of my hens are molting, so she won't lay).

I've heard about that too....but I like to give the girls a break every now and then. You guys are so lucky to be getting that many eggs. I recently andded two new hens...maybe they are just stressed at the moment. Oh well...just twiddeling my thumbs waiting for spring to come again.!!
