The good news is: one of my chicks laid an egg! At only 17 weeks!

The bad news is: she laid it in the litter on the ground,
I didn't see it and I STEPPED ON IT!!!

Ugh!

Just felt a pop under my foot...
and I just knew.

But they're starting to lay!
I can't wait to actually try one.

How wonderful! Too bad you stepped on it

Mine seem to lay on the ground the first time too. I always wondered if it was because they were so shocked at laying the egg they didn't know to go in the box.

I love my iPhone.
But I have to admit, I'm a gadget geek.
And a mac freak.
The keyboard takes a bit of getting used to,
but if you just trust the "smart dictionary"
and keep typing, you get the hang of it pretty quick.
And it takes amazing pictures.

The chick who laid is a Golden Buff.
The egg seemed to be a perfect size,
the shell felt nice and hard,
the yoke seemed fully formed.
I was very proud of her.

The worst part is,
she was standing right there
(I had no idea what she was doing in the coop during the day)
and she just made this little gutteral sound when I stepped on it.
As if to say, all this hard work and THAT'S what you're going to do with them!?
