The great duckling watch.

He is partially out now. Shallow breathing but a still alive.

Glad he's out. If he's going to live he should be able to kick free of the shell.

He's pretty much kicked out on his own. He keeps tucking into a ball and from
What I can see there looks to be a small pink opening on/near wear his little butt will be. I'll try and get a picture. I don't remember seeing it with any of the other babies. He did open his eyes for a quick peek ;)

The pink think is the umbilicus, and sometimes they don't close properly. They will eventually close, but sometimes infection can set in before they do. Be sure to keep him on a very clean towel until it does heal. Some people have posted that they apply betadine, chlorhexadine or Vetericyn, but I haven't done it enough to know if it's a good idea or not.

Picture would be helpful.

I'll get a picture as soon as he kicks out more. I'm trying not to open up the bator. Humidity is crap in there since we just fired it back up late this morning ;(

He hatched! And is moving around .
Here is the pic of that opening. Belly button? Or am I just clueless ? Lol

Thank you all!
The kids are so happy right now.
That duckling looks great. like Kathy said just keep him/her clean and should heal fine.. So happy for you and Kids!!!

Until completely closed and scabbed over I wouldn't touch it, way to easy to introduce bacteria.
