The Great Egg Shipping Experiment!

I read thru most of this post before attempted to incubate a clutch of eggs. I set my bator up and ran it for 24hrs to ensure that it kept the propper temp, after setting my eggs I went to purchase a new thermometer as I read that you should not use the glass thermometer thats included with the incubator. When I got it in the bator it showed that the temp was 94.5 instead of the 102 (I have a still air incubator) that the Little Giant thermometer was showing. Is that going to effect my hatch ? they were in there approx 48 hrs before I turned up the temp.

Also did you salibrate the LG thermomter for accuracy? Mine is off by a couple degrees.

Above 95 degrees the babies are growing fast-- at 99-100 they are growing at the correct speed for optimal development.

I have not calibrated the LG thermometer yet, I just removed it from the bator and replaced it with the one I did calibrate. I will be calibrating the LG one tonight to place back in the bator :)

THe LG thermometer is notoriously off, especially when a precise measure ment is important. GOod luck !! IT is not too late to have a good hatch!!

Get a Brinsea Spot Check. They are known to be very accurate. If you get one from Brinsea, it will be certified to be correct.

Thank you for all the info I really appreciate it!! I will look into the Brinsea thermometer. I was also looking into the Brinsea octagon 20 Eco with the auto turn, does anyone have any thoughts on this bator?
I have the Octagon 40 ex with the turner and humidity pump.

I have had great hatches in it!

Thanks for the tip. What's a good incubator for a beginner between $70 and $160.?

Got a lady who has nothing but hatching hens and is interested but on a budget.
Get the spot check here:

The Brinsea facebook page usually has a code that will get you a 10% discount.

For the price, the Genesis 1588 hovobator is a great choice. Get it from GQF:
