I had to bribe my dw with a mexico beach trip in order to buy these eggs. Shes gonna flip out if it dont pan out

I feel your pain. Because, if many of the eggs start to be clearly bad, this little money ticker sign starts up in my head.... And each egg or chick keeps increasing in price as yet another egg or chick dies....

I haven't yet decided if the duck foot chick counts as zero, which means the four I got from that set of shipped eggs increase in price from $17 each to $21!!!!

one of those eggs that spent so much time in transit is showing signs of life already..i have a staggered hatch going on so i candled some others in place and just for the heck of it i check those and one was growing already maybe two

Oh, question for the crazy incubation addicted.... Can breach hatch be caused by continuing to rotate/turn eggs for way past "lock down"?

No, inadequate turning is a cause. Turning up to hatching does not hurt them but they can get caught on the turner after hatching. Lots of things cause it.

This is from the Hatch problem trouble shooter. Pay attention to the note about chicks that die before day18:

I had two breach in this last hatch....possible causes from the nice list you posted would have been

- too high humidity (since I do not have a dedicated hatcher, those poor eggs have a humidity spike every time a set hatches)

- maybe not enough turning when I hand turn eggs when a set is hatching

- not enough B vitamins....I know ducks need lots of Bs, and I have not been giving them any fancy breeder rations. Both breach were ducks.


Total €%# on the nutrition point..... I have three sets of eggs already laid, two of them are being set while we speak... But, I guess I will know for next time.

I would join you all in your fish food feeding frenzy, but that isn't easy stuff to get up here. I feed the ducklings brewers yeast, so they get their extra Bs, so I am not sure why I didn't give any to the breeders.

Ah well.
