The Great Egg Shipping Experiment!

Pics
SCG, Ron - Alright you two, lets hear and see what happened today while you were at work. I've been thinking about it all day and my patience is just about gone......

4 have hatched and I see 2 more pips. The ones that hatched are probably from the EE roof. Marans take more time so the ones from the Marans roo will tomorrow I hope!

I now have 5 with pips and 3 working on hatching.

I hope to see more in the morning but will move at least the 4 to the brooder then.

I went straight to bed last night when I got in...

Looks like everything is hatched with exception of one egg, so 9 chicks. Most appear black, one's yellow and one's chipmunk striped. They're still in the incubator. They'll have to wait until tonight.

I'm a zombie right now.

That is amazing!

I put 16 eggs into lockdown and this morning there are 5 not hatched. 1 is zipping and 2 others have a pip. The last two do not have pips. So there should be 11 hatched with the 12th one out soon.

Great hatch rate!

So they were packed using a modified skyline method
Shipped ground so took a week to get here in the winter
18 were set and incubated at 40% humidity in a Brinsea. 2 were removed as clears
16 were locked down at 73% humidity in a Genesis 1588
11 of 15 hatched and 3 more still working. could be 14 out of 16

That is shipped eggs success!

ronott1 Yes it does make sense, wish I had know this before maybe I would have had a better hatch rate in my bator.Another question would this apply to broody hatches? She would keep turning them as soon as you put them under her.Darn! now I don`t know what to do,I have 16 eggs comming in the morning, they have been in the mail since Monday.I have broodies to cover them all so didn`t set up the bator.Oh well got a good deal on them will just have to wait and see.
Broody was off her eggs and in another nest this morning and the four silkie broodies had moved around also and I found one broken egg so I decided to start the bator up and use that.I received 18 frizzle bantam cochins eggs form N.C this morning(I am in in northern Maine) they shipped Monday.Box had a little corner damage and I had 1 cracked egg it had been seeping so I threw it away.So I have 17 eggs that are setting on the counter warming up they were a little cold. Will wait for a few hours so bator will get up to temp and hold,am also calabrating the thermomater and humidity and that takes 6 hours.Going to try the sitting for a few days then turn on the turner.I am going to keep the broodies broody so I can put the chicks under them after they hatch, will wait a day so they will be eating and drinking, have had great success with this.

The power went out one morning when I had 19 just hatched chicks in my Garage Brooder. I had to quickly get them into a little rubbermaid brooder and use an ecoglow 20 hooked up to a car battery. It worked!

The things we do for our chickens....

Good luck hatching! Keep us posted.

Happy Valentines Day!

I guess I had a Valentines Day Hatch!

After the morning coffee and breakfast--and also removing 8 little buggers from the hatcher, I have a better count. 11 have hatched, 5 are left and 2 have pips. That leaves 3 with no action.

I removed 8 this morning:

The chick in the front has the fluffiest bottom of anything I have hatched at one day old! Amazing!

They look nice don't they?

Three are still in the brooder and one of them already wants to be a condiment--It is in a condiment cup from Cattleman's Steak house!

wonder how many I will find in the hatcher tonight?
