Well I just had a new event! I went over to the hovabator and looked at the temp. I smelled boiled eggs. Opened the incubator and super smell wafted out. Took the 34 eggs outside in the autoturner. Sprayed down the incubator with bleach water. Candled and smelled each egg. I had 4 eggs that were stinking. I had just candled on day 7 Friday and there was no smell. Lightly misted the remaining eggs and put them back in the incubator. I hope this was all correct.... I guess I will find out in 12 days or so. Its always something seems like.

I read where a breeder would only ship Hatching eggs via UPS standard ground. He stated the hatch rates had went up significantly since making that change.

I think his reasoning was that they did not have to endure a flight. Any comments?

Out of the 73 eggs that I had shipped in to hatch 49 were removed, clear and/or scrambled. They were all shipped USPS Express Mail except one was shipped FedEx. All were packed very well except the one shipped FedEx. The packing job on it had a lot to be desired.

Our second hatch was set earlier in May. Like before, one batch of eggs (Blue Splash Ameraucana's) were local and we took a chance on shipped Swedish Flowers eggs which I cannot find locally. Hatching day should start around June 9. It will be interesting to see if we are successful with the SF eggs. I really hope so because I really want to add to my flock. With all that I read from everyone here it is always a crap shoot, unless you are hatching you own fertilized eggs. I would be interested hearing from someone who received their eggs through UPS to see how their hatch went.

Those chickies are adorable Ron. I tried to get some of the Marranduna Basque with this recent hatch but it fell through.

I hope the hatch goes well!

The Marraduna Basque that I have are from Skyline. I am hatching all that mine are laying this year.

Hi everyone! When I was turning the eggs a few days ago, I smelled something bad. I found the bad egg and removed it. It looked like it had never started developing.

Then yesterday was day 14 so I candled. I had to remove 2 more clears and a blood ring

So now I only have 8 out of the original 14 left in the incubator.

1 very early death (BCM)
1 blood ring with a dead embryo (EE)
3 scrambled yolks from shipping (All BCM)
1 stinker that was not developing (BCM)

In the incubator I still have.

1 EE
2 SC (these look very healthy. They have bright red veins and movement!)
5 BCM (I saw movement in a few)

So does this all sound normal or am I doing something wrong?

one of my shipped eggs hatched!its seperated from the egg shells completely should i remove the shell

Leave them alone--Opening up the incubator too much will hurt the other eggs that are hatching.

Congratulations! That is very exciting.
