I've been in love with Tolbunt Polish since I first saw an image of one. . . But they're quite hard to acquire as a lot of you may know.

Well, I finally got some for myself - Of all my crazy hatch after hatches this year, this is my most exciting one!! So, I created a thread to keep you posted on all the updates of how these eggs will go. . . Starting from day 0.

Here's the eggs when I got them and pulled them out of some great packaging. I got them from Lucinda at Green Acres Poultry Farm. So in reality, I should also expect some frizzled Tolbunts.

And here's them during their wait. . . When I got them, I still had my last hatch finishing up.

They're now in the bator with several other Polish eggs, crossed with an Easter Egger. I also put in two Easter Egger eggs just to try again at it . . . I have an EE hen who lays eggs so big they never make it through incubation. Of all my attempts all I get are quitters and blood rings.

Once these babies hatch, I'll have a completely seperate coop and run for the Tolbunts. . . They're going to need a separate, pampered life away from being possibly picked on and surely rained on too much.

You need to post some pics of the hens and the roos.

Those are some EXPENSIVE eggs. I hope ALL of them hatch.

They remind me more of "Big Bird" even more than the Bearded Buff Laced Polish do.

Looks like the eggs are nice sized too!

PS...

Are you going to hatch these expensive eggs again this year? If not, add "of 2010!!" to your thread title.

We could go into advertising together...

I'm hoping that by fall once they're mature, I can hatch some more. . .

So that's why I didn't add the 2010 part, but yes I was thinking along those lines!

This is a thread I'm going to be watching.

Maybe eventually you'll have so many that you'll be able to sell the eggs a bit cheaper???

So, is Tolbunt polish just another name for mille fleur polish or is there something different about 'em? I'd never heard of tolbunt, so I googled them, and they look mille fleur?

Quote:
Technically they are not Mille Fleur - They are basically a golden laced with white tips. Mille Fleur is like a spangling, with gold/brown, black, then white on the feathers.

So, there's a difference.

Good luck with those. I had one hatch that I had no idea what I had, it was an egg that was thrown in with some test eggs of Buff laced polish. Out popped this off color polish so I emailed the person who I got them from, and they said surprise I included a tolbunt egg, of course I wasn't complaining. I hope you have a wonderful hatch, keep us posted and I'll subscribe to this thread.
